Generosity Fuels Productive Healthcare

The Oyen & District Health Care Foundation has been uplifted by the enduring spirit and remarkable generosity of Oyen and all the surrounding communities. We are proud to report that over the past 12 months we have funded $58,400 in equipment and programs. Every dollar donated represents a direct investment in the health and well-being of a neighbor, friend, or loved one. Your support is truly invaluable to enhance the high-quality care our rural community deserves.
Donations can be made via e-transfer oyenhealthfoundation@outlook.com, dropped off at the front office of Big Country Hospital 8-3 weekdays or by mail PO Box 1 Oyen, Alberta T0J 2J0.

Thanks to everyone that donated, worked or ate at the Farmer’s Market last Friday. The foundation recognized a profit of $1215!
The board is on hiatus for the summer months but will be back in the fall funding more equipment and projects that enhance health care in our communities.

Oyen Long Term Care Adopts the White Rose Program

At a Family Resident Council meeting some residents voiced a need for a more consistent and compassionate approach to end of life and bereavement in LTC. This was a sentiment echoed by staff. The following is a brief overview.
When a resident is at end of life a White Rose is placed at the entrance to their room and a cart containing such items as coffee, tea, cookies etc is brought to their room for family. This increases awareness for family and staff helping to foster a calm environment.
Once a resident passes their bed is respectfully covered in white bedding where a faux white rose wreath is placed as well as a white rose memorial sign at the entrance to their room. A memorial honours their spot in the dining room. A peaceful area was established where staff, family and residents can reflect and leave a card for the family.

The Oyen & District Health Care Foundation was honoured to fund this very worthwhile project.

Today the hospital retirees met to celebrate Christmas! Hats off to these wonderful ladies who worked at the hospital and community health services in many different departments and to all the dedicated current staff and physicians that keep our medical facilities operating. Your donation dollars at work!
Ten years ago this foundation provided the LTC unit with 6 power recliners. During Covid very harsh cleaners were used resulting in the deterioration of the leather negating proper cleaning. This fall the foundation purchased 8 new power recliners at a total cost of $10,218.32.
