🌟 A Day in the Life of Sarah: A Caregiver’s Journey Made Easier with Next Steps
Meet Sarah. She’s a dedicated caregiver to her aging father, who has slowed down in recent years due to health challenges. Like many caregivers, Sarah was juggling overwhelming decisions—she wanted to ensure her dad was safe and cared for, while still honoring his independence at home.
That’s when Sarah turned to Next Steps, and together we created a plan that reduced her stress, simplified the process, and empowered her to make the best decisions with her dad. Here’s what we did:
✔️ Clarified What Matters Most: We sat down with Sarah and her father to identify their priorities—his independence, safety, and comfort.
✔️ Addressed Barriers: Together, we tackled key challenges like managing medications and ensuring safe bathing routines.
✔️ Customized Support: We connected them to a home care program (CDHCI) that allowed Sarah’s dad to choose his own caregivers, all while receiving funding through Alberta’s programs.
✔️ Planned for the Future: By reviewing medical history and anticipating changes over the next 6–12 months, we helped Sarah explore whether home care would remain a sustainable option and introduced her to care facilities—outlining costs, wait times, and key considerations.
Now, Sarah feels confident and prepared. She’s starting to review care facilities as a proactive step, knowing she has a solid plan in place to support her father, no matter what the future holds.
💙 At Next Steps, we’re here to guide caregivers like Sarah through life’s toughest moments—simplifying decisions, reducing stress, and ensuring everyone’s dignity and autonomy are respected.
