A day program for young adults with special needs requiring minor support, with respite and/or community hours through private family-managed PDD, in the NW Calgary and Rockyview areas.

Loving this fall weather! Made for some lovely outdoor time. We did art studies of the horses, some photography, liberty horsemanship, and a visit to our acreage in Bragg Creek for a trail walk, meditation by the lightening tree, and mini terrariums. 🍂✍️📸📷🐴

To start a FREE community fiction book exchange, but to take it to the next level! And I wanted to start it with my daughter who has some special needs. She has always adored books, and I thought this would be a great project to bring meaningful occupation into her life! So we put a call out to our friends and community for some fiction book donations for all ages, and had an overwhelmingly amazing response! What an exceptional collection of books we’ve managed to put together! These books are current and sought after, and absolutely do not disappoint. The best part of it is that it will be run by young adults with varied abilities! Patrons will be able to bring a gently used fiction book to exchange for a free book from our collection! And if you do not have a book to exchange, you can still drop by and purchase one for a small fee with all proceeds going to running our day program . We have enough books to occasionally switch them out to keep things exciting for regular visitors! Once we are open, we invite you to come and peruse our collection in our adorable heated book shack, have a coffee, enjoy the property, and meet the horses! We are located in the NW of Calgary, in the community of Bearspaw.

Follow us to stay in the loop about our opening date! We hope to have other events, such as storytime, games night, and book clubs!

What a lovely week we had! We are loving this beautiful September weather! We went to the Chinese cultural center, and enjoyed a lovely exposition, played games at the Hexagon Café in Kensington, and had a fitness day where we worked on our core balance by exploring how it feels to be in sync with the horse’s body, as well as some fun at Edworthy Park! Those kids put me to shame 😆

Could not have asked for a better start to our program! What a bunch of exceptional young adults who have joined us! Brilliant, compassionate, and adventurous! Exactly our kind of people 😉 I am not surprised one bit that the horses and humans are already creating deep bonds ❤️ It always fascinates me to see them come together. We had the perfect mix of enticing activities and relaxation! I am thrilled to see the young adults share of their lives with each other through the beginning of some pretty cool friendships! This past week, we had recreational day, outdoor day, and life skills day! Next week we have a community outing and fitness day!

This is going to be amazing!! And I get to be part of it 🥰🙏❤️

If you have a young adult with special needs requiring minor supports in your life, it’s time to start thinking about their schedule for the fall!
Introducing a fresh new program that will be held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, for young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 years!
This program will be quite unique! It will be kept small to encourage lasting authentic relationships. It will be tailored to the participants interests and passions, and include a variety of exciting outdoor activities typical of acreage living! But that’s not all! There will be so much more!

The best part is that families can use their current respite or community hours through PDD family-managed services and won’t be charged one cent over their hourly funding rate of $21.54 an hour.

Marianne has a background in occupational therapy, provides behavioural developmental support under FSCD, runs recreational groups for adults with mental health challenges, is the creator of equine-assisted support ©, a yoga, instructor, and best of all, the mother of a young adult with minor special needs!

Located right beside Rocky Ridge in the northwest of Calgary! Starts the first week of September!!

We need your help! Have any gently used fiction books that you are willing to donate? Our young adults with special needs are getting ready to open the doors of The Midnight Sun Community Book Exchange this September! We are looking for popular best selling fiction in all age categories. We are only accepting fiction at the current time. There will be a clearly marked
plastic bin with a lid placed outside the gate doors of the property for you to leave your donations! Please drop off anytime at the following address:

Meet Eva, my 19 year old daughter! We are a team! Together, we are launching a different type of day program for young adults with special needs requiring minor support, just like her, that is family-managed (PDD) and part-time! We are hoping to make it as nature- based as possible, here on our acreage in the NW of Calgary, however, it will include so much more!

My name is Marianne Disipio, and I certainly have a story to tell. Having a background in Occupational Therapy and my own child with minor special needs, has led me down a very unique life journey. I’ve dedicated my life through my personal experience with Eva, and by utilizing all my professional skills, towards helping families and individuals with special needs.

Our house is a very very very fine house 🎶😉🏡❤️

I call it my Hacienda in the woods! We are a 1 minute drive from the NW Calgary Rocky Ridge Coop grocery store, and a three minute drive from the Royal Oak Walmart Plaza. We are very close to everything, yet so removed and nestled in our 7 acres of forested property. We have lovely horses and paddocks, a sand arena, an outdoor sauna, a little indoor studio, a community book exchange , an outdoor yoga deck, and a stone patio and fireplace, complete with a Spanish style fountain. There are back trails as well. You have to come see it for yourself! We have ample space for our indoor activities! It’s as awesome as it gets and won’t feel like a day program at all!

Friends who read together stay together 😉 We have the cutest libraries in NW Calgary area! There’s a library at the Royal Oak YMCA, Crowfoot, and one I adore in Cochrane. My daughter loves graphic novels! I’m hoping to take our young adults with mild special needs in this day program to the library and come back to simply chill and read! There’s nothing wrong with that! OK, maybe we stop at McKays ice cream and grab a treat on the way home 🍦 or go thrifting on the main strip. Now that’s a proper outing! 😝

When you’re half French half Italian, food is a thing. My husband George is a busy physician, but always takes the time to encourage us all to get creative in the kitchen! It’s ingrained in the values of all the cultures we embody. And trust me there are a few ethnicities between both of us 😉 In this day program for young adults with special needs requiring minor support, we will certainly be cooking up a storm once in a while, and indulging our taste buds! I have a lovely Hacienda country style kitchen with a view of our forrested yard and the horse paddocks. Makes for a magical setting!
