Couldn’t wait the few days until the first of the month, which is when I typically post. This one was just too timely.

Team culture isn’t the printed values or the outward facing public posts, but the behaviours that a team allows, overlooks, or excuses. That is precisely what sets the standard of culture in any organization.

Those who know me will know that I often share the sentiment that whether you’re intentional about creating a culture or not, you’re gonna have one. So let’s work on being more deliberate with what we say, what we laugh at, and what we excuse.

As the Olympic and Paralympic Games approach, this is a reminder of what the wider audience doesn’t always see: the early mornings, the never-ending reps, the standards you hold when no one else is watching, and often, the literal blood, sweat and tears.

For the athletes who trained just as hard but didn’t get the call this time: your work still counts. Your effort still matters. Your identity and value were never dependent on selection.

This moment holds pride, excitement, heartbreak, and everything in between. Keep showing up.

Every year, I’m proud to donate a portion of all Alayne Hing Consulting proceeds to local or national charities doing great things. I typically focus on one main charity for the year; however, this year I decided to spread the love. Some deserving charities I was able to donate to (some in larger donations, some in small donations), thanks to my awesome clients, were: and more.

The was an important one for me this year, as this Spring I gave my whole family the gift of Aspirin pre-filled .ca keychains, along with a printout of how heart attacks present in women. 😂 These cute little keychains can save lives, and I’m glad to carry one myself.

I love November, because winter sports are in full swing and we have an exciting Olympic and Paralympic season ahead.

This quote resonates because during these big moments, we often have some tough decisions to make. I try my best to make values-based decisions; that is, those that are congruent with who I am as a person and who I want to be.

Gosh I love this season so much. A time of rest, transition, and excitement for what’s to come.

I like this quote because it speaks to something I refer to often in my sessions: aspirational values. We don’t have to stick with “who I have been”, but we can consider “who do I want to be?” and work towards that each day.

September is here! 🙌 I hope everyone had a great summer break.

This past month I attended three main training camps (one Winter Olympic, one Summer Olympic, and one Summer Paralympic). One common thread I noticed was the impact our actions have - not just on our own reputation, but on others as well.
☀️
I saw veteran athletes being role models for young rookies, and I also saw young athletes emulating the behaviours of their heroes, for better or for worse. One conversation had a few of us reiterating the well-known phrase “with great power comes great responsibility” (thanks, Stan Lee).
☀️
Our reputation is formed by our actions and can be long-lasting. What do you want your reputation to be? Living according to our values can help us to be proud of how others see us, and how we can hopefully leave a sport better than we found it when the time comes for a new chapter ahead.
