We’ve updated the definition of healthcare quality to guide providers in reflecting on patients’ needs.

This evidence-based update includes seven dimensions of quality: people-centred, accessible and timely, safe, equitable, integrated, effective, and efficient and sustainable.

A common definition of quality creates a shared language and understanding of how care should be experienced by people.

The Resource Roadmap is a caregiver-informed resource database designed to make it easier for Albertans to find the supports they need. Whether you're searching for yourself or a caregiver, close to home or across the province, the Resource Roadmap is here to guide you.

We are hosting a one-hour webinar specifically designed for our partner organizations and service providers across the province. You'll learn how to submit your organization’s information and/or services to be included in the database through a hands-on demonstration led by our team. We’ll also walk you through the review and approval process that ensures each listing meets caregiver needs.

Not a partner? You’re still welcome to join!

The HQCA mourns the passing of Dr. Greg Powell, a visionary leader and faithful advocate of patient care. Between 2017 and 2024, he was a valued member first of our Patient and Family Advisory Committee and then our Board of Directors. He is remembered with deep appreciation for his integrity and principled leadership. We offer our sympathy to Linda and the Powell family. ❤️‍🩹

Four initiatives are being recognized for improving the patient and family experience across a range of services – including diabetes care, chronic pain management, music therapy, and transitioning from hospital to home.

These initiatives demonstrate positive patient and family experiences can be achieved by improving the physical environment, how relationships are established and maintained, or how services are planned or delivered.

Each of these teams listened to the needs and preferences of patients, took action to improve, and empowered patients and families in the process. This is at the heart of person-centred care.

Submissions to our annual Patient Experience Awards are evaluated in a rigorous two-part process in which applicants describe the challenge they were trying to solve, their solution and how they identified it, the impact it has had, and the degree to which their solution can be scaled up and spread to others.

The 2025 recipients have all shown a commitment to listening to and empowering patients and families.
