We know how overwhelming it can be to see Santa at a noisy, busy mall. We hope to take the stress out of meeting Santa and make it a positive experience for your family.

We love it when we can get new friends together 🌟 Our Tues/Thurs morning preschool group is underway for the summer and we couldn’t be more excited!

The marble run was a favourite this morning and brought everyone together for some turn taking and collaboration.

Reading with your child is so important, but what happens when they struggle to sit and attend to the book? Here are some tips for making reading time more enjoyable:⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞: Read with your child at the same time everyday (bedtime, after lunch, etc.). This helps them know what to expect. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐬: Is your child obsessed with trains or Paw Patrol? Finding books about topics they love motivates them to participate. ⁣⁣

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬: Having your child select the book to read providers them with a sense of control. For children who struggle to make open ended choices, you can hold up two books and ask them to pick one. ⁣
⁣
𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐧: Be silly by doing funny voices, exaggerated actions and engaging your child by tickling them. ⁣
⁣
𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭: If your child struggles to sit still while listening to books, keep reading time short and sweet at first. It’s better to read successfully for one minute than it is to struggle for ten. Slowly increase the number of minutes you read each day as your child successful.

When a child is struggling, it's our job to figure out why by looking at what's going on around them. When we know why, we can make changes to their environment to set them up for success!

You don't need fancy, expensive toys to create fun learning opportunities for your child. From a simple game of peek-a-boo to a mission to Mars, a cardboard box has endless possibilities!

Filling in the blank: say "ready...set..." while your child is sitting inside the box. When they say "go," take them for a ride.

Fine motor skills: decorate the box with stickers and see how colourful you can make it.

Requesting: your child can request different colour markers to draw on the box, or for you to push the box faster or slower.

Turn taking: siblings can take turns pushing each other in the box or hiding inside and popping out.

Guessing games: have your child close their eyes while you hide an item in the box. Have them shake the box and guess what is hiding inside.

Symbolic play: the box can be a rocket ship, a boat, a house, or a firetruck.

Meet our team!

Avrya holds a Masters degree in psychology with a specialization in ABA. She has worked with children with disabilities for five years and is passionate about creating an effective team to provide the best services possible to her clients. Her interests include reducing challenging behaviour, verbal behaviour, and enabling those with learning disabilities to reach their full academic potential.

Megan is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst and holds a Masters of Applied Disability Studies from Brock University, with a specialization in ABA. With over eight years of experience in the field of ABA, she has worked in homes, clinics and community settings. Megan is passionate about teaching communication skills, school readiness and training parents to implement behavioural strategies at home.
