Astro Mechanica and UK motor specialist Helix are developing Duality™, a hybrid-electric engine designed to enable efficient Mach 3 supersonic flight.

Helix’s ultra-dense electric motors allow the engine to shift between turbofan, turbojet, and ramjet modes, creating a lighter, more efficient approach to high-speed propulsion. With successful hot-fire tests completed and a flight demonstrator planned within three years, this partnership could shape the next era of supersonic travel.

Shimco is proud to announce two new Boeing special process approvals for our Cambridge, Ontario facility:

🔹 BAC 5019 – Chromic Acid Anodizing
🔹 BAC 5022 – Sulphuric Acid Anodizing

With these additions, Shimco can now perform most surface treatments for Boeing aluminum and steel parts, expanding our in-house capabilities and streamlining the aerospace supply chain.

Shimco is also the only company in all of Canada approved under Process Code 304, and one of just two companies in Canada (and the only one in Ontario) approved under Process Code 306.

This distinction underscores Shimco’s commitment to technical excellence and reinforces our unique position as a trusted Boeing-approved processor in Canada.

Constellium and Tarmac Aerosave have successfully recycled and remelted aluminum from retired aircraft into new aerospace-grade material that meets production performance requirements—an R&D effort supported by Airbus and Valoer. The team’s next step is industrial scale-up across multiple alloys, proving out the full recyclability of metallic airframes at end-of-life.
