I am a wife to my husband Adam for 13 years and a mother to 12 year old twin girls. At 31 I was diagnosed out of the blue with Guillian-Barre Syndrome. This left me paralyzed and in hospital for 4 months unable to move and locked inside my own body. I had to re-learn how to walk again, use my hands and so on. One of my occupational therapies was sewing. Thats where my journey of crafting started. I am on permanent disability and this helps keep my brain and body moving. I was never an artistic or creative child but I have now found that I have so much creative energy that needs to be let out and I am so happy to share it with everyone!!! Thank you so much for your support. Please know that every piece I sell goes towards helping my family and supporting my children have the best childhood possible.

How This Came To Be

Hello! My name is Kiley Panziera the creator of Be Funky Designs. I am 35 years old, a wife, a mother to twin 11 year old girls, as well as a fur mom to 1 derp doodle named Jed. The unique part of my story is how I came to enjoy sewing and how I came to start Be Funky Designs. On March 12, 2016 I was diagnosed with Guillian-Barre Syndrome. It is a rare auto-immune disease that attacks the myelin sheath that protects all the nerves in your body. This rendered me paralyzed from the nose down for 4 months. I was hospitalized and on a feeding tube. I had severe muscle atrophy and I had to learn how to walk again, and had to have occupational therapy everyday to learn how to use my hands again. Sewing happened to be one of the activities in my occupational therapy. I thought “why not give it a shot” while I was there. I fell in love. When I eventually got to go home I was on full disability from working in a doctors office and my doctors didn’t know if I would ever be able to go back to full time work. So I made lemonade out of lemons and I started to sew items of kids clothes and sold them to friends, which quickly blossomed to this....Be Funky Designs!! I am ever so grateful to my therapist who gave me the blessing of this skill that has given me the ability to help provide for my family again, and thank you to all my wonderful customers, I hope you enjoy your items as much as I love making them!
