Tongue cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the cells of the tongue and can cause lesions or tumors. It is a type of head & neck cancer.
Recently on July 8th, Loreena was diagnosed with malignant tongue cancer with tumors. Her tongue has been extremely red, painful when eating certain solid foods & bleeding.
Right now Loreena finds she has less energy & gets easily fatigued, which affects her diet & mood. This has a huge impact & effect on her ability to work.
Her surgery is on August 6th in Victoria. We just finished moving her into a more affordable rental however, she is going to have an uphill battle. She will be admitted for a night or two in Victoria. She will be losing some of the left side of her tongue and the surgeon indicated they will have to go deep into the tongue. After surgery, her speech will be affected (her work requires her to speak), swallowing & eating will require her to be on a liquid/soft food diet.
Life after tongue surgery will be a challenge for her at first but is also unpredictable. She is hoping to go back to work mid September but in the meantime, I wanted to help her the best way I know how. I have created this page to help ease the burden of living expenses & unexpected costs she may incur on top of her lost wages.
