📱 Save Money on Your Phone and Internet Bills: Discount Programs for Disabled Canadians

Let’s be honest — phone and internet bills in Canada aren’t just high… they’re comically high. Like “Do I really need Wi-Fi and groceries this month?” high.

And if you’re living with a disability, chances are you’re already juggling more costs than most — mobility aids, appointments, therapies, supports, medications — all the things that keep you going but rarely get discounted.

What most people don’t realize is that there are programs designed to lower your phone and internet bills if you’re disabled.
They’re just not well advertised. And some of them seem buried under 14 pages of legalese and a suspiciously upbeat government website.

That’s why we broke it all down for you: what to say, who to contact, and what proof they’ll ask for.

⚠️ Read This Before You Apply for the DTC

The DTC is easy to get only if the paperwork is done exactly the way CRA expects.
And most people — including doctors — don’t know what that actually means.

🧩 The online form (Part A) is just the beginning.
📄 There’s also a 16-page medical form (Part B) your doctor must complete.

But here’s the issue:

Most doctors don’t understand what CRA really wants.
They don’t know which boxes are “trick questions.”
They don’t know what counts — or what hurts your chances.
You send them a code… they fill out the form without talking to you about your challenges… and hope for the best.

But your doctor doesn’t live with you.
They may know your condition — but not how it affects your daily life.
They don’t see your mornings, your routines, your limits, your adaptations.

❌ One missed checkbox — especially in the Mental Functions section — can mean an automatic denial.
❌ Some forms are denied so poorly they’re impossible to fix.
❌ And reapplying can mean waiting a full year to try again.
❌ Denials have been going up — fast — since CRA launched its “easy online application” tool.

🧭 This Isn’t a Quick Form — It’s a Journey

If this all sounds overwhelming, that’s okay.
You’re not expected to be an expert. You’re not supposed to do this alone.
That’s why we’re here — to guide you through it, step-by-step.

You do NOT have to use the Apply Online method - and shouldn’t!
The good ol’ pen and paper version or fillable .PDF are still your very best options.
If your doctor insists you use the apply online method you CAN get help and support BEFORE you do so.

We offer professional, personalized support to help you avoid costly mistakes and get it done right the first time.
Whether it’s your first application or your fifth appeal…
Whether you’re unsure if you qualify, afraid of making a mistake, or are too stressed and burnt out to want to figure this out on your own…
We can help you navigate this the right way — with support, clarity, and compassion.

Professional Boundaries and Code of Conduct

DTC Solutions Inc. and LuCynda have worked tirelessly for over 10 years to support the disability community and their families, providing accurate information, compassionate advocacy, and pro bono services well beyond standard expectations. This work often means sacrificing personal and family time to help others, particularly during times of crisis or when our small business is under pressure.

To ensure we can continue providing quality service to our clients and maintain a safe, professional environment for our team, DTC Solutions Inc. maintains clear professional boundaries that all clients and community members must respect:

Required Standards:

• All communication must occur through scheduled appointments, business email, or official channels. Unscheduled visits and unwanted direct contact are not permitted and may result in refusal of service.

• Priority for our team must remain with paid clients and family responsibilities, especially during periods of crisis.

• Harassment, intimidation, threats, misuse of personal information, and repeated unwanted contact—whether digital, verbal, or in person—are unacceptable and may result in termination of services and appropriate legal action to protect our staff and business.

• Professional courtesy and respect for boundaries are expected at all times.

The safety, dignity, and wellbeing of our team, clients, and families are our top priorities. The vast majority of people we serve respect our boundaries and make our work possible. We ask that these standards continue to be respected so we can provide the highest quality support to those who need it most.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

My passion is helping you . . .

I am a mother. I am a mother to 7 children, several of whom have complex needs. I was introduced to the Disability Tax Credit program many years ago, nearly at its inception. My daughter (who is now 18) was critically ill as an infant. The disease she had deprived her body of red blood cells and platelets which caused her to have organ failure and a mild brain injury. Thus began an long and frustrating series of medical appointments, medication, specialists, IEP’s, and so on and so on.

We were fortunate that acquiring help and care was relatively easy. She had an amazing team at Alberta Children’s Hospital (Dr. Andrew Wade) who were always thorough and genuinely caring. Dr. Wade made things happen. When something wasn’t right that was unrelated to her kidney’s, he brought in a team member from the right department. We did not experience the long waiting lists and the red tape that is all too common for many children with disabilities.

I applied for the DTC for her several years later and was easily approved. That was then - this is now.

Upon applying for another of my children with complex needs I discovered, the hard way, the approval process for the DTC has become extremely complex. I applied for my child with much more information than had been provided for my other daughter. I was denied. My doctor send additional info. I was again denied. We sent more info and were denied again. We did a new application and were denied yet again. I went to my MP who was kind, but not helpful. I spoke with the head of DTC department and was met with coldness. I asked her to review my file and tell me exactly why the application had been denied as my daughter met the criteria as written on CRA’S website. She told me she could not just pull up my file and that this was just the way things were. She told me the criteria had not changed and that CRA was under no obligation to provide specific details about why an application is denied. I asked her why denials were so high if the criteria was the same. She had no desire to have an honest conversation with me or give me any direction or guidance. I was livid.
