Chilliwack Moves - A Run for Prevention A brand new community run & event dedicated to raising awareness about preventative health within the City of Chilliwack and the surrounding areas.

Chilliwack Moves - A Run for Prevention is a new community event dedicated to raising awareness about preventative health. Our goal is to promote the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to increase your longevity. We have many medical systems in place to deal with disease, but we often lack the knowledge and information available on how to stay healthy. The event will be an 8km, 5km or 1.5km run/walk along the beautiful Chilliwack Rotary Trail. What makes this event different? After the run, there will be local wellness businesses set up at booths to give-away FREE products, tips, and information about their unique take on prevention and what you can do to improve your health starting today!!! So far the line-up includes:

The Habit Project

These are an amazing group of health guru’s, but make sure to stay tuned….as we will have more in store for you on October 1, 2017! The 1.5km kids forest run is FREE for all youth under the age of 12, so come on out for some family fun, while learning about health and wellness! Early-bird registration opens April 1, 2017 and there are limited spots, so get your ticket NOW - you don’t want to miss out!!! Community Benefits:
When you register for Chilliwack Moves - A Run for Prevention, you are helping an important cause. All net-proceeds will be donated to the Chilliwack Park Society. They have dedicated many years to ensuring that our trails and parks are in excellent condition, so that the public can easily and safely explore our forests, lakes, and rivers. This is a valuable cause to support because it is through exploring nature that true health can flourish. DETOX// ok guys, this picture is super cheesy (guilty) but there is some meaning behind it and detox! One of the single best ways to detox is through movement... yes... MOVEMENT. If your not moving and increasing circulation to those 4 detox organs we spoke about previously, your not detoxing. The single best way to increase circulation is through getting those muscles moving.

Heres the nerdy physiology behind it: the faster and harder your heart contracts (because your moving), the more blood flow your tissues will receive from your arteries. Not only that but muscles are the primary movers of venous return. What is this you ask? Once the oxygenate blood has done its job it enters the venous system. But in this system the heart is not really involved. The only way to get that blood back is through your muscles compressing your veins and the blood in them upward, back towards the heart. The more you move better this system system works! Allowing delivery of Nutrients and removal of toxins to happen more effectively.

Another added bonus to movement is it makes you sweat more, and as we have leaned your skin is one of your main detox organs! It has many of the same enzymes used by your liver to detox. That’s why if your liver isn’t working right you may find you will have more skin issues because the skin is making up for the livers inefficiency 🤓

Stinging nettle is a gentle detox herb and it is abundant right now! Just go for a stroll in the woods and you will find some, we did! It's easy to harvest, just make sure to wear gloves and be mindful of your impact on the plants and other living organisms nearby!

Dont get me wrong, there is a time and place for detoxing with the assistance of a product, but in most cases it’s not the place to start! With out the appropriate guidance while doing these kits, consumers often experience a lot of adverse reactions. For those who are looking for safe and gentle tips to start this process on your own.... stay tuned this month!

WE WERE MEANT TO MOVE// have you ever wondered why you feel so darn good after hitting the trails? Trust me, this is no mistake. The feeling of happiness and general ease after running was all part of mother natures big plan when she was designing the human body! She knew what was up! ——————————————-
When we run neurotransmitters (that’s just a fancy word for chemical messenger) called endorphins are released. These powerhouse chemicals bind to opioid receptors in the brain, leaving us with the sense of joy and optimism. But why??? ——————————————-
As humans a huge part of our genetic make up is structured around the reward system. If I do this, then I’ll get that! Our bodies innately know that if we can be left with a happy sensation after putting ourselves through something that is at times challenging (like exercise) that we are more likely to do it again. This is no doubt a built in protective mechanism to ensure we continue to nurture our body over time in order to keep it healthy so it can prevent and ward off disease and infections through movement!
