S E V E N years ago, August 2015, the End of Life Doula Association of Canada was only an idea.
This morning we held our 5th Annual General Meeting and Town Hall. I teared up during our pre-meeting. After hundreds of meetings throughout the bulk of my 20's, it’s time to change how I serve our community.
With over 400 members, 5000 subscribers to our mailing list, a visionary board and innovative community, I could not be more proud to end my time serving the association as co-founder, secretary and more recently vice president.
Incredible people have generously volunteered their time, resources and energy to build the association to where it is today. Thank you to everyone who has played a role. The association illustrates that, “There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” - Margaret J. Wheatley.
I’ll leave you with this:
If you wholeheartedly believe change needs to be made, pursue it. You’re likely not the only person who understands that something can be done differently to improve an experience. It only takes one or two dedicated people to take the first steps. Hold on to hope that others will see your work and help within their capacities and skillsets.
Find your people, ask for help, build community, do it scared, get in the arena, take care of yourself and know when to step back.
A meaningful thank you especially to my partner Stuart, family and friends who have walked alongside me throughout the years. You have carried me through. Specifically, my visionary work wife and co-founder of the association, Jennifer Mallmes. I love you all. It is time now to rest and recharge.
With overflowing gratitude,
Sarah Muxlow
