Spot treating feels like the obvious thing to do when a breakout shows up… but the answer isn’t always that simple.
If you have inflamed pimples (the red, irritated ones), spot treating can help calm them down and reduce bacteria.
But here’s something a lot of people don’t realize: spot treating a pimple doesn’t stop future breakouts. It only helps treat the one that’s already there.
Where spot treating can be helpful is when someone is working on repairing their skin barrier. Instead of putting strong treatment products all over the face and drying the skin out, it can be better to just treat the specific spots while the rest of the skin heals.
The reality is that acne is different for everyone. The type of acne, the health of your skin barrier, and even things happening inside the body can all affect how acne should be treated.
That’s why treating acne properly usually requires personal guidance and adjustments along the way.
Sometimes the goal isn’t just getting rid of the pimple you see…
it’s figuring out why it showed up in the first place.
Save this for the next time you’re debating whether to spot treat.
