My personal story
I attended my first birth at the age of 18. This set me on a path of curiosity surrounding birth at a time when choice was not always forefront for birthing families. After the birth of my son, I felt I needed to do something that would empower women to have an experience that was better than mine. I enrolled in an intensive Community Birth Program that allowed me to specialize in the support and education of marginalized families. Later I heard there was a name for what I was doing. “Doula.” I then had my daughter and chose to go back to further educate myself. After completing a certification program, I went on to support well over 100 women in their births. When attending births came to a crossroads due to life circumstances, I felt a need to continue my work, though in a slightly different arena. After continuing my education, and at the request of my former doula clients, I began teaching Childbirth Education. There appeared to be alot of options for group classes, but not many for the busy families that may not have the want or need for a group class. So began Chilliwack Private In Home Prenatal Classes (now Chilliwack and Agassiz Private In Home Prenatal Classes). I also provide postpartum doula services and lactation support as requested. Throughout this journey I have lost 2 babies of my own. Through my healing I chose to complete my certification as a birth and bereavement doula. With this I have expanded to peer support via Meadow’s Bridge.
I look forward to educating new families. Contact me to discuss your personalized education plan today.
