Do you know someone with HAIR LOSS or HAIR THINNING that wants to resolve it?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is an injection therapy into the scalp using the body's own blood platelets and growth factors to stimulate natural hair growth and maintain it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicle and increasing the thickness of the hair shaft. Sometimes this therapy is combined with other hair loss procedures or medications.

Most PRP therapy requires 3-4 treatments, spaced 4–6 weeks apart with maintenance treatments every 4–6 months.

The steps for PRP are:
1. Your blood is drawn from your arm and put into a centrifuge (a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities).
2. After 10 minutes in the centrifuge, your blood will have separated in to three layers:
- platelet-poor plasma
- platelet-rich plasma
- red blood cells
3. The platelet-rich plasma is drawn up into a syringe and then injected into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth.

PRP is also used aesthetically for:
- lines and wrinkles
- scars
- stretch marks
- acne
- building collagen
- skin rejuvenation
- pigmentation/discolouration
- improving loss of tone
- natural filler

Why your shoulder still hurts months after an injury

If your pain hasn’t settled, it usually doesn’t mean your shoulder is “damaged forever.”
It usually means the driver of the problem hasn’t been addressed.

The most common reasons I see in clinic:
• the rotator cuff never fully re-loaded
• the shoulder blade isn’t moving well with the arm
• the neck / upper back is still contributing
• your return to activity jumped ahead of your tissue capacity

Pain can settle…
but poor movement and poor load tolerance often stay behind.
That’s why symptoms come back when you reach, lift, train, or sleep on it.

This is not about doing more exercises.
It’s about doing the right things for how your shoulder is actually functioning.

If your shoulder pain keeps returning after an old injury, your body isn’t failing you — it just needs a better plan.
Save this if you’ve been dealing with lingering shoulder pain.

What is Upper and Lower Cross Syndrome?
Do you sit in front of a computer all day? Commute long distances or spend lots of time texting or watching TV? You may have experienced Upper/Lower Cross Syndrome. It is caused by sitting in a slumped position with your head tilted forward.
The result is short, tight muscles on the front of your body and long, weak muscles on the back. It’s often accompanied by headaches or chronic back pain, shoulder pain, or neck pain.

Even if you don't experience pain, poor posture can cause muscle imbalances, and the resulting compensations can compromise your day to day activities. If uncorrected, it can also lead to painful trigger points or even injuries. In some cases, it depresses the sternum making it more difficult to breathe.

If you'd like to prevent chronic pain, and fix your posture, book an appointment with me (and along with my other colleagues: chiro, physio, kines, massage) we will get you back on track!

Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash.

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox.

After you've had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue and may reactivate and travel along a nerve pathway to the skin, producing shingles. Not everyone who's had chickenpox will develop shingles.

The reason for shingles is unclear. Shingles is more common in older adults and in people who have weakened immune systems.

Shingles isn't life-threatening but it can be very painful. Early treatment can help shorten a shingles infection and lessen the chance of complications. The most common complication is post-herpetic neuralgia, which causes shingles pain for a long time after the blisters have cleared.

Shingles usually affect only a small section of one side of the body. Pain is usually the first symptom of shingles.

Most commonly, the shingles rash develops as a stripe of blisters

A person with shingles can pass the varicella-zoster virus to anyone who isn't immune to chickenpox. This usually occurs through direct contact with the open sores of the shingles rash. Once infected, the person will develop chickenpox, however, not shingles.

Complications from shingles can include:
- Postherpetic neuralgia. For some people, shingles pain continues long after the blisters have cleared. It occurs when damaged nerve fibers send confused and exaggerated messages of pain from your skin to your brain.
- Vision loss. Shingles in or around an eye (ophthalmic shingles) can cause painful eye infections that may result in vision loss.
- Neurological problems. Depending on which nerves are affected, shingles can cause an inflammation of the brain (encephalitis), facial paralysis, or hearing or balance problems.
- Skin infections. If shingles blisters aren't properly treated, bacterial skin infections may develop.

Contact your doctor promptly if you suspect shingles.

02/01/2026

Parasympathetic (rest and digest) vs Sympathetic (fight, flight or freeze) is how our body responds to stresses and stimuli around us.

When we are in a Parasympathetic (rest and digest) state, this restores the body to a calm and composed way of being. This allow for better digestion, lower heart rate and breathing rate, feeling more relaxed and sleeping well.

When we are in Sympathetic (fight or flight) state, this is when the body is prepared to respond to a stressful event or danger. This increases blood flow to our muscles (in case we have to run away), it increases our heart and breathing rate, and decreases our digestion process.

The problem with our busy lives now is that many people are stuck in a Sympathetic (stress response) state most of the time and this continues to signal the body to be in fight or flight mode.

If you are struggling with DIGESTION, SLEEP, STRESS MANAGEMENT or CALMING A BUSY MIND, these are all symptoms of being stuck in a Sympathetic state and Naturopathic Medicine can help resolve this.

Book an appointment with Dr. Heather today and let's get you back into a rest and digest state!

STRESS:
It causes more health issues than most people realize (especially when the stress is ongoing or constant)

There are many stressors in all of our lives these days due to work, home, money or financial trouble, sickness or health concerns and even just day to day life struggles.

It is really important to make sure that we can find ways to de-stress in a healthy way such as deep breathing, meditation, time to ourselves, reading a book or having a bubble bath.

If you are struggling with stress on an ongoing basis, it would be a good idea to take steps towards finding ways to de-stress in a positive and constructive way.
