SUN GAZING
Yoga Chimes Foundation
The best time to practice this is during the twilight hours or golden hours (30 minutes after sunrise or before sunset). This can be done safely by staring at the sun with an uninterrupted gaze for a few seconds without blinking or squinting. The idea behind sun gazing is that the sun has healing properties and when one gazes at it, they absorb its rays.
How to practice:
Drink sufficient water (Hydrate).
30 mins after sunrise or before sunset, pick a place facing the sun (patio, backyard, beach, park, hills, etc).
Face yourself towards the sun by being at a comfortable asana (standing or sitting).
Simply gaze or stare at the sun for a couple of seconds to minutes (during golden hours).
Experience the flow of your breath while being still.
Sungazing on regular basis offers numerous benefits to our mind, body and soul. A few to name are:
Relief from depression and anxiety. Improves focus.
Increased serotonin levels, which can help with depression, insomnia, and other mood disorders.
Boosts melatonin production for better sleep quality.
Helps to balance hormones to prevent hormonal imbalance or precocious puberty in children.
Increases Vitamin D production, which is great for the immune system and prevents cancer cells from growing.
Stimulates pineal gland function and mental clarity, which can lead to better focus and creativity during daylight hours.
Be well.
