Well, they say spring has sprung, but while we wait for the rest of the snow to melt let’s plan some trips!
Last year I did a handful of hikes and absolutely loved everything about it. It wasn’t always easy but at the end of the day I felt so accomplished.
Being outside, navigating routes, packing the backpack, setting up camp, cooking outdoors…all of it takes time and planning.
So here’s what I’m thinking for this year - I have two overnight hikes coming up that have spaces for friends to join:
May 1-3 at Frontenac Provincial Park, doing a loop, approximately 15 kms total 🥾
Frontenac PP is amazing for new hikers! There’s wooden tent pads on most sites, a metal bear bin for food and an outhouse in each camping area.
Next up is a hike at Bon Echo, doing the Abes & Essens trail.
I’ll be on this trail July 26-28, doing about 17kms total.
This one is new to me and will be a different experience for sure! Camping here will involve hanging our food, having bug spray and thunder boxes for a bathroom. A little more ‘rustic’ than Frontenac!
I have gear recommendations, if you’re not quite all equipped and a lot of it is budget friendly.
For safety, I’ll be carrying bear spray, a whistle and a satellite device called a ZOLEO for emergencies.
I am really excited to get out there and even more excited to share this experience with friends 🎉
