A village can do both but without support for the mother, both may struggle more in their journey together 💓

Did you know that when I began this journey and I had to brand myself and create my business, our instructors asked us to come up with a BHAG (a term coined by Jim Collins and Jerry Pollas) which means a Big Hairy Audacious Goal...

So I thought it thru long and hard and came to this - if at the end of my work life I could say that I've "held all the babies in Northumberland" then that is what my BHAG would be. Because passionately I knew that if I have held all the babies, imagine all those parents that I have supported in my time as a Doula??? That, is pure magic to me!!

And then Dou North came to me, with the tag line Northumberlands Maternal Doula. Dou North also metaphors somewhat directional and my core goals are to listen to the families I am with, hear their own instincts, build their confidence and help guide them to trust who they are as a parent as they are the BEST person for their child. As well as support them to get there healthily, heard, validated and cared for.

What an incredible role I have right??!! How incredibly lucky am I that families trust me to be present at their birth, bearing witness to their most vulnerable space and then welcome me into their home and trust me to care for them as essentially a stranger (tho I make sure they get to know me pretty quick when we meet lol!).... Let me shout it to the Northumberland Hills, I could not be more honored than to be this for them and I hope it has conveyed as we have spent our time together. I truly love this path that I am on.
Thank you 💗

This is another graphic novel that I am deeply fond of AND got to do a virtual author talk with Myriam a few years ago for the Port Hope Public Library before I worked there and became a Doula!!!
This is an important and valuable read 💗 also, easy read with the cool graphics, and also - depicts very real images to some very hard to express thoughts and feelings.
**Trigger warning for miscarriages and loss**

A deeply moving tragicomic graphic memoir about a singl…

I exceptionally love a great birth/postpartum graphic novel, and this was definitely one!!!
Had a quick read while my oldest was skating - handy having a public library right at the rink!

Marietta and Chuck, madly in love, are expecting a baby…

How blessed I was this whole year to have been invited into the lives of the families who trusted me to support and care for them thru their birth or postpartum journey.
I was gifted this beautiful ornament and bling by one of my earlier this year birth families, and the words strike every chord in my body and to my bones.
They say you need to do things outside of your work that bring you joy, to keep you balanced.... How incredible that I get to do many things that bring me joy, that are also my work - I can't think of any other things that could make me happier!!!
Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🎁💗

In today’s age of advanced technology and medical interventions, it’s easy to forget the inherent strength and wisdom of the birthing body.

That’s where doulas come in.

We’re here to remind birthing families that they hold the power within them, and that childbirth is not something to be feared, but embraced.

Studies show that continuous support from a doula can reduce the need for C-sections by 39% and shorten labor by 25%. But beyond the statistics, doulas offer something even more valuable: unwavering emotional and physical support, a calming presence, and advocacy for your birth plan.

With a doula by your side, you are reminded of your body’s incredible capabilities. We bridge the gap between clinical care and human connection, ensuring that every birthing person feels empowered, informed, and heard. Birth is a deeply personal journey, and doulas honor that journey by bringing compassion and strength to each unique experience.

Comment DOULA if you’d like to learn more about doing this magical work.

As I sit here on a little summer pause at the cottage, one baby to back up on the way, another meet and greet planned for a November baby, I reflect on just how lucky I am to be a part of these intimate and empowering journey. If someone you know is looking for birth or postpartum support, a Doula can make a world of difference to your birth experience and getting into parenthood with more confidence and care. Think of Doulas too, when it comes to gifting soon to be families 💗

I'm waiting for the call for baby #11 and this client connected me to a really cool book "Placenta the Forgotten Chakra" by Robin Lim.

I'd love to know if anyone I know chose delayed cord clamping (and for how long) or went so far as to have a lotus birth? And if you don't know what that is, ask me and I can share!!

This book however, gives a pretty touching take on how important the placenta really is.
I can't tell you how gifted I am to be able to learn from my clients while I am there to support them. This is truely, the coolest work ever!!!

(PSA, no endorsement by the author or push to read this book, just an avid reader sharing!)
