Today CBC's Deep Dive was into an album that came out 20 years ago. It was an album that figured strongly in my life: So Jealous by Tegan and Sara. My friend Sarah Q and I saw them live. I was living in Toronto and working for Patsy Aldana at Groundwood Books. That was the start of a list of strong women who shaped who I am today. That office was filled with amazing women who had such passion for children's books. There were so many women in the book business that became role models and friends, Saffron, Morgan, Susan, Nan, Lisa G and Lisa D. I have never had a shortage of amazing women in my life: my mum and her wonderful sisters, my sister-in-law, my university housemates, my Pink Bra Society friends in Ottawa, the Condo Ladies of Garden Glen Pvt, my first yoga teachers, Basia, Janice and Natalie, the studios owners and teachers who became beautiful friends, Tatiana and Lindsey, the students aka friends who have been with me on the journey over the years that I miss seeing every week. When I truly reflect on the 20 years since that album came out, some of my greatest life moments have been with powerful, compassionate women. That has continued to be the case. The respect and admiration that I have for the women in my life is still strong. Since moving to NL I am so proud of my female friends who are strong business women and community leaders, Jessi, Roshayne, Carla, Susanne, Melissa, Natasha. I have met new women in person and online that have become an important part of my yoga practice, Margaret, Jan, Nancy, and the Monday night gang. I can't name all the women who have impacted me because the post wouldn't end, but the love I have for every single woman that has taught me, consoled me, laughed with me, trusted me is especially being sent to you today on International Women's Day. It's a long post because the number of inspiring women out there is incredible. Libby and I stayed in the car a little longer after coming back from the woods. Teagan and Sara sang to us, "I am alright, I can stand up straight." And, I can because of the support of some pretty great women.
