I've been slow to post this year, but I am happy to share that our winter session will start tomorrow, Monday February 10, 2025 at 7pm at 62 Broadway.

I can't wait to see everyone and start our next journey together. For me, yoga is a space to reflect and connect with what's happening in my body, to challenge myself physically and mentally, and to find rest. It's also about connecting with each other, finding support, and sharing in the journey. These classes are our time to give ourselves space to explore and look at things from different planes.

I love being on the journey with you!

Monday Night yoga has finished for 2024. What a wonderful fall session! I was sad when classes ended, but then the lovely Jana Fenske asked me if I would help her with a special restorative session over the holidays. I'm very excited to be co hosting this relaxing, inward journey on December 29 at 6:30pm at Pasadena Place in Pasadena. Join us for Jana's restorative class, some soothing sounds, meditation and touch. Sometimes we need to slow down and hold ourselves gently.

Happy Autumn! I love this time of year. It's a time of change, of shifting, of drawing inward, but also of exploration. This is when we can romp in the leaves, see views once obscured by leaves and wear our favourite sweaters on crisp hikes.

This season does, however, bring darker evenings. It's an opportunity for a different journey. Join me on Monday evenings at 62 Broadway for a Hatha flow class that plays with a little balance, a little strength, a little stretch and little rest.

Start Date: November 4, 2024
Duration: 6 Weeks
Cost: $60 ($48 for students)
Location: 62 Broadway

Aside: Libby is always ready for an adventure and a downward dog, but since she can't come to class, she insists on being the mascot for Moving with db 😉

I'm excited for rooftop yoga again this year! Join me Thursday, August 1 from 3-4pm on the green roof at CB City Hall. It was so fun to offer this last year at Jig & Wheels. It's looking like rain right now, but NL weather changes every ten minutes. Fingers crossed the rain holds off. This is a free class. Bring your yoga mat and some water and we'll have fun moving stretching and relaxing.

It's been a while since I've posted! I've been busy making a fairy door. I've also had a shoulder injury and the start of frozen shoulder. It's taught me so much about breath, patience, and the journey. The physical aspect of asana has been challenging. It's really given me insight into how a physical practice is completely different for each person. That's something we know on an academic level, but now I really understand things that were only ideas before. That's the positive side of any experience. We understand another perspecitve. I am also grateful for the people who join me in online practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Community is a wonderful thing.

Now back to fairy doors! I've been working on an event called Tree Party for 62 Broadway. It's going to be an outdoor forest extravaganza with music and art and fairy doors and medicine walks and a market and sword demonstrations. If you are in Corner Brook, please come on July 27, 1-6pm at Blow Me Down Trails. Being in nature, finding community and celebrating culture are great supports for a yoga practice. 🌳🐦‍⬛🧘‍♀️

There are so many aspects to wellness. We often talk about physical and mental wellbeing, but our wellness also depends on social, environmental and financial well being. We can find joy in learning new things even if we didn't know we wanted to learn them in the first place. We can feel contentment finding spaces where we belong even if it's scary going someplace new. I love connecting with people through yoga and movement. I also love connecting through community events. Hope to see some of you at the 62 Broadway Wellness Week events!🌷

So excited about this! If you haven't heard Nico Paulo, she is amazing. Check her out: https://nicopaulo.com/videos/
It's an honour to be partnerhing with her on this event.💗

We have a treat for you! As a little teaser for Music & Wellness week, May 8-11, we have Nico Paulo at 62 Broadway on May 1st for a special Music & Yoga event.

Nico Paulo is an award winning Portuguese/Canadian songwriter, performer, and visual artist. She moved to Canada in 2014 to pursue her career, originally setting down roots in the vibrant Toronto arts community, and eventually moved east to become an essential part of Newfoundland’s celebrated music scene. She has been exploring new sounds and experimenting with how sound supports and weaves into the texture of yoga practices. While working on a mural at 62 Broadway (Come see it!), Nico and Debbie Brown, a 500 hour EYT, connected. After practicing together the two found a sense of peace. Debbie's classes aim to create space to explore without judgement, to rest, to balance and find balance, and to nurture both the physical and mental aspects of the body.

They are thrilled to be working together to create this special class which brings sound and yoga together.

Space is limited! Get your tickets now:

I like pictures of me with my dog outdoors. I like warm socks. I like challenges without judgement and balancing when it's okay to fall. I like laughing from the belly. I like birds, crows especially, and dogs and squirrels and trees and the sound of brooks and irises and the scent of rain and the way the light falls at the end of the day. For me yoga is a place where you belong. It's a place to explore without fear, to question, to rest, to balance and find balance. It's a journey. One that I love sharing with others. If you would like to join me, please do. If you like wool socks, add a photo in the comments. If you like photos of yourself with your dog, add those too. Connecting with ourselves and with others is what it's all about.

Join me on Monday nights starting April 22, 2024
Where: 62 Broadway, Corner Brook

I've had a short break from social media. Time to experience an eclipse, to bask in the sunset with my dog and husband, to draw, to be present in life. There are so many wonderful parts of this journey and some hard parts as well. I have missed Monday night yoga and the joy of community. So...Moving with db Monday Night Flow (and whatever else strikes our fancy) will be back for another 8 weeks starting on April 22, 2024. Same time, 7pm; same place, 62 Broadway. 🌷☀️

Today CBC's Deep Dive was into an album that came out 20 years ago. It was an album that figured strongly in my life: So Jealous by Tegan and Sara. My friend Sarah Q and I saw them live. I was living in Toronto and working for Patsy Aldana at Groundwood Books. That was the start of a list of strong women who shaped who I am today. That office was filled with amazing women who had such passion for children's books. There were so many women in the book business that became role models and friends, Saffron, Morgan, Susan, Nan, Lisa G and Lisa D. I have never had a shortage of amazing women in my life: my mum and her wonderful sisters, my sister-in-law, my university housemates, my Pink Bra Society friends in Ottawa, the Condo Ladies of Garden Glen Pvt, my first yoga teachers, Basia, Janice and Natalie, the studios owners and teachers who became beautiful friends, Tatiana and Lindsey, the students aka friends who have been with me on the journey over the years that I miss seeing every week. When I truly reflect on the 20 years since that album came out, some of my greatest life moments have been with powerful, compassionate women. That has continued to be the case. The respect and admiration that I have for the women in my life is still strong. Since moving to NL I am so proud of my female friends who are strong business women and community leaders, Jessi, Roshayne, Carla, Susanne, Melissa, Natasha. I have met new women in person and online that have become an important part of my yoga practice, Margaret, Jan, Nancy, and the Monday night gang. I can't name all the women who have impacted me because the post wouldn't end, but the love I have for every single woman that has taught me, consoled me, laughed with me, trusted me is especially being sent to you today on International Women's Day. It's a long post because the number of inspiring women out there is incredible. Libby and I stayed in the car a little longer after coming back from the woods. Teagan and Sara sang to us, "I am alright, I can stand up straight." And, I can because of the support of some pretty great women.
