Su***de Awareness Month 💜 💙

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is warning the public of the presence of a synthetic opioid, REMIFENTANIL, in the community in Corner Brook.

The RNC received a report this afternoon indicating that a quantity of packaged vials containing liquid synthetic opioid, Remifentanil, was missing. It has not been confirmed whether the package reached its intended destination, Western Memorial Hospital. The investigation into this report remains active.

The RNC advises extreme caution for individuals using illicit drugs as the criminal enterprise utilizes synthetic opioids, such as Remifentanil, to increase the potency of the substances. The effect of even a minute dose can be fatal.

If you or someone you know is using illicit drugs, please ensure there is a naloxone kit close by. Free naloxone kits are distributed by the Department of Health and Community Services. A list of distribution sites is available online at gov.nl.ca/hcs/naloxonekits.

If you or someone you know is experiencing the symptoms of a drug overdose, call 911 immediately. The Good Samaritan Act protects those experiencing a drug overdose or anyone present during an overdose from charges of possession when they call for emergency help.

The RNC is asking anyone with information to assist the investigation to please contact Corner Brook RNC at 709-637-4100. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit nlcrimestoppers.com.

🌿 June is Men’s Mental Health Month 🌿

As a therapist—and as a mother raising boys—this month holds deep meaning for me.

Too often, men are expected to carry emotional pain in silence. They’re taught to be strong, to “man up,” to push through—while vulnerability is seen as weakness rather than courage. The result? Far too many men suffer quietly with anxiety, depression, trauma, or burnout, unsure where to turn or whether they’re even allowed to ask for help.

💬 Men’s mental health matters.
It’s not just about crisis moments—it’s about everyday emotional wellness. It’s about unlearning outdated messages that say real men don’t cry or talk about feelings. It’s about creating space where men feel safe to explore grief, fear, tenderness, and self-doubt without judgment.

As a mom of boys, I think daily about the world I want them to grow up in—a world where their emotional intelligence is honored just as much as their strength. A world where they’re free to ask for help. A world where mental health isn’t a gendered conversation.

🧠 Whether you’re a man struggling silently, a friend watching someone close shut down, or a parent raising boys—let’s keep this conversation going. Let’s reduce the stigma, challenge the stereotypes, and remind the men in our lives:
You don’t have to do it alone. Your mental health matters. You matter.

If you’re looking for support, please know help is out there—and reaching for it is one of the bravest things you can do. 💙

đŸłïžâ€đŸŒˆ Happy Pride Month!

As a therapist, I honor the courage it takes to live authentically—especially in a world that doesn’t always make it easy. Whether you’re out, questioning, exploring, celebrating, or simply surviving—you belong.

This month (and every month), my space is one of affirmation, safety, and compassion. Mental health is for everyone, and so is pride.

💖 Here’s to healing, thriving, and being unapologetically you.

🌈 With warmth, support, and a whole lot of pride,

Kelly

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

As a therapist, I see every day how deeply connected our mental and physical health are. Just like we go to the doctor when our body hurts, we deserve care and support when our mind is struggling.

There’s no shame in needing help. There’s no weakness in admitting you’re overwhelmed, anxious, burned out, or feeling low. These experiences are what make us human. The more we talk about it, the more we remind each other: you’re not alone.

Mental health is health. Full stop.

So this month—and every month—I invite you to take a moment to check in with yourself and the people you love. Rest when you need rest. Reach out when you need support. Most importantly, let’s keep breaking the stigma by talking openly, compassionately, and honestly.

You matter. Your mind matters. And healing is possible 💚

An Integrative Approach to Postpartum Depression and Anxiety

Postpartum depression (PPD) and postpartum anxiety (PPA) affect up to 1 in 5 mothers, yet so many suffer in silence. These conditions are more than “baby blues”—they can deeply impact emotional well-being, daily functioning, and the parent-child bond.

While therapy and medication are often essential, growing evidence supports an integrative model that includes nutritional and lifestyle interventions to enhance outcomes.

Emerging research shows that balanced blood sugar, adequate protein intake, and essential nutrients like omega-3s and iron can positively influence mood, energy, and stress resilience. Similarly, small, sustainable habits—like gentle movement, hydration, and restorative sleep (realistically, when it can happen!) can offer powerful support.

In my work with postpartum clients, we explore evidence-based therapeutic strategies alongside practical tools to nourish emotional and physical health. It’s not about perfection—it’s about building routines tailored to the specific needs of new moms and establishing healthy habits for healthy families.

If you’re a new mom or supporting one, feel free to share or message for more resources.

Feeling Anxious? Let’s Talk About a Whole-Person Approach đŸ«¶đŸ»

Anxiety is something many of us experience—but it doesn’t have to take over your life. In my work as a therapist, I use an integrative approach to help clients manage anxiety by working with both the mind and the body. This includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), nutrition, and exercise—and each plays a powerful role in supporting the brain and calming the nervous system.

Here’s how each piece helps:

🧠 Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
CBT helps you identify the thought patterns that fuel anxiety—like catastrophizing or overgeneralizing—and learn how to reframe them. This actually changes how your brain processes fear and stress. Over time, CBT can reduce activity in the amygdala (your brain’s “alarm system”) and strengthen the prefrontal cortex, which helps you stay grounded and make thoughtful decisions instead of reacting out of panic.

🍎 Nutrition:
What you eat directly affects how your brain functions. For example, low blood sugar or high caffeine can spike cortisol and increase feelings of anxiety. On the flip side, nutrients like magnesium, omega-3s, and B vitamins support neurotransmitters like GABA and serotonin—key players in regulating mood and keeping your nervous system balanced. Food is more than fuel; it’s brain chemistry.

đŸƒđŸœâ€â™€ïž Exercise:
Regular movement boosts endorphins and increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which helps the brain adapt to stress and supports the growth of new neural pathways—something we rely on during therapy. Exercise also helps regulate cortisol and improve sleep, which are both crucial in calming an anxious mind. You don’t need to run marathons—even a walk outside or 20 minutes of yoga can make a difference.

Anxiety responds best to a personalized, multi-faceted approach. I work with each client to create a plan that fits their lifestyle and supports their overall well-being—mentally, emotionally, and physically.

If you or someone you care about is dealing with anxiety, please know that healing is absolutely possible. Feel free to reach out with questions or to learn more about this integrative approach.
