CCH has launched a new first-dose Suboxone program in the Emergency Department to support individuals in our community struggling with opioid use disorder. Suboxone, a medication that eases withdrawal and reduces cravings, can now be initiated in the ED for patients in early opioid withdrawal.

Developed in partnership with Recovery Care Cornwall and CCH’s Withdrawal Management Services, the program connects patients with follow-up treatment and ongoing support after their first dose.

“This lets us start someone on their recovery journey immediately,” says Dr. Lorne Scharf, Emergency Physician (pictured). “It’s a safer, evidence-based approach that creates a clear path toward long-term care.”

With opioid use on the rise locally and across the province, this program helps reduce repeat ED visits and ensures patients receive timely, compassionate, stigma-free care.
