Please remember Weighted blankets are made for the person and not the bed. The blanket should hug you.
* Made in 2-pieces for easy washing
* 100% cotton insert with ties all around it so it will not bunch. Our inserts are filled with virgin (non-recycled) poly pellets, non-toxic, hypoallergenic, mold resistant. We do not use poly fill to prevent bunching after washing and overheating of the person using the weighted blanket.
How do weighted blankets work?
• Weighted blankets apply pressure to the afflicted person, known as “deep touch pressure.” This pressure has a calming effect, almost like a hug. This soothes and relaxes the users, helping them to ignore distracting stimuli which may normally keep them awake.
• Weighted blankets are often given to children with autism and people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder because the weight in these blankets helps calm those dealing with hyperactivity and/or anxiety. What most people don’t realize is that weighted blankets can be used by just about anyone for a variety of reasons. I believe everyone should own a weighted blanket! I am passionate about my work and how my blankets are helping clients of all ages.
Deep Tissue Pressure
• The deep tissue pressure provided by a weighted blanket helps release serotonin throughout the brain. Serotonin is a natural chemical created by your body, which contributes to temperature regulation and feelings of well-being and happiness. The serotonin then turns into another natural chemical within the body called melatonin. Melatonin can also help with temperature regulation and most importantly, it is a natural sleep aid. Producing melatonin can also help individuals who are suffering from insomnia. Not only do these natural chemicals help you fall asleep, but they also help you get a better night’s sleep. This is necessary when the muscles in your body are sore or if you are ill. Sore, achy muscles and fatigue are signs that your body needs to rest and recover. Weighted blankets can help your body relax and fall asleep quicker while assuring your body is getting a good night’s sleep. Everyone deserves a good night sleep!
• Weighted blankets are often suggested as a therapeutic treatment for many medical conditions. It has been helpful to so many children and adults with physical and psychological conditions including, but not limited to: Autism, Asperger’s, ASD Stress, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Exposure Therapy, Dental Anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Tourette’s Syndrome, Seizure Disorder, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Pain, Bi-Polar Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), Schizophrenia, Cerebral Palsy (CP), Alzheimer’s Disease, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, (PDD, PDD-NOS), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, (FASD), Dementia, ADHD, ADD, Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), Down Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome, Rett’s Syndrome, Insomnia, Sleep Terrors, Parkinson’s Disease, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Williams Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Charge Syndrome, Shift-Work Sleep issues, and so many other Conditions.
Questions? What Size Blanket Should I get? And, Does Blanket Size Matter for Children compared to Adults?
• In children who are still growing we can calculate the weight at 15% of total body weight. This will allow for rapid growth vs size of the blanket.
•Blankets are made to fit an individual, and not a bed, and should not hang over the side, but lay on top of the bed, and on the individual. Buying a blanket too large in size (area) for a child is not effective as the pounds per square inch will be distributed throughout the entire blanket and a smaller amount of weight will be on the child.
What do I need to know when choosing a weighted blanket?
• How Much Weight Do I Need? What Fabric Is Best? What Size Should I get? What makes the blanket heavy?
• The industry Standard for Adult Therapeutic Weighted Blankets is 10% of Body Weight + 1 Pound. (This is then normally rounded up to the next whole pound.)
• In adults we can follow the rule of 10% plus 1-2lbs depending on the gender, weight, height and need of the weighted blanket. I have found that all these factor help in determining the weight of an adult weighted blanket.
** Example: A six foot 200lbs person vs a five foot 200lbs person based on the standards would be each be a 21-22lbs weighted blanket HOWEVER I have found from experience that less weight maybe required depending on gender, age, height and weight. **
• For these reasons I ask questions in order to get to know you and your needs so that you will receive a weighted blanket that is custom made for your own body structure and personal needs. In the end, I want to ensure that you are receiving the best option and by answering these questions, together we can make a weighted blanket you will love.
• Delastpillow only use 100% Cotton as the fabric, as it is the safest, the coolest, and most breathable fabric for the weighted insert.
