On behalf of the Dokis Cultural Committee, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Brian Armitagebaa as he begins his journey to the Spirit World.

Brian has been the Firekeeper for the Dokis First Nation Annual Traditional Pow Wow for many years, a role he carried with great knowledge, humility, and care. As Firekeeper, he tended the sacred fire with respect and purpose, understanding its role in carrying our prayers and maintaining balance. He was kind, dependable, and always ready to do the work in a good way, offering his time and spirit freely for the benefit of our people.

Brian’s presence at the Pow Wow grounds was steady and grounding. He carried himself with quiet strength and shared his knowledge generously, helping to ensure that our teachings were upheld with respect. Through his dedication, he has left behind a legacy that will continue to live on within our Pow Wow and within the hearts of those who learned from him.

He will be missed deeply by all who had the honour of walking alongside him. We send our thoughts, prayers, and love to his family during this time of loss. May you find comfort in knowing that Brian’s spirit, teachings, and contributions remain with us, carried forward through the fire and through the people.

NOTICE — Traditional Grounds Landscaping in Progress

Work is actively underway at the Giiwejwan Traditional Grounds. Roads are being put in, drainage work is in progress, and the newly-seeded areas are beginning their growth.

We kindly ask all community members to please refrain from driving on or through the grounds at this time. Keeping vehicles off the area will help ensure the seeding takes properly and the work can be completed without delay.

Miigwech to the Okikendawt Hydro Trust for approving the funds to make these much-needed improvements possible for future gatherings and our 2026 powwow season.

Miigwech for your understanding.

I want to take this time to offer a heartfelt chi-miigwech to everyone who helped make our 23rd Annual Traditional Powwow in our beautiful home community of Kikendaad, Dokis First Nation such a meaningful and powerful celebration.

To all of the dancers, singers, head staff, invited guests, volunteers, firekeepers, vendors, sponsors, fish fry catering, community members, and those who traveled from near and far—thank you for coming together to share in the spirit of our gathering. Your presence and energy helped make this weekend truly special.

A huge shoutout and deep gratitude to our powwow committee—you showed up in every way possible. From brainstorming and fundraising, to organizing accommodations for our guests, setting up in the rain, and keeping everything running smoothly through the weekend (registration, ticket sales, and lots of running around!), your dedication did not go unnoticed. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Here’s to community, culture, and coming together in a good way. Baamaapii kina wiya 🦅

Next year, come celebrate with us June 27 & 28, 2026 for our 24th Annual Traditional Pow Wow
