Here we’ve featured a retrofit we completed this year. We use local knotty Eastern white cedar and clear Western red cedar for our interior finishes. Sadleir House (tag their account in post)
Built in 1892, Sadleir House is a jewel in Peterborough’s architectural landscape. Originally constructed as a single-family dwelling, the cooperatively run house currently serves a wide variety of groups and individuals in the greater Peterborough community. To meet the House’s growing needs staff sought to create two fully accessible bathrooms that meet current Ontario accessibility codes. Working in an historical home is not without its challenges but through the work of our team and sub-trades this project came together smoothly, creating two unique accessible spaces to serve the house and its guests for decades to come. Plumbing by Berardi Brothers Plumbing, floors by Focus Flooring and tile from Turco Tile.

This build took our Modern Studio in a new direction, creating a remarkable artist’s studio overlooking iconic Stony Lake. Adding custom built shelving and storage, and built in accordance with the client’s needs to operate a professional-grade kiln, the 16’x10’ footprint of the Modern Studio has been utilized to its full potential as a space for creativity and artistic expression.

We love working with clients over multiple projects to continually improve their homes and recreational properties. This client on Wollaston Lake first had us build and install one of our early Modern Studio designs, and several years later had us back to create a more welcoming and easily accessible property with a custom multi-level deck, a new covered porch and full replacement of the existing deck’s railing system, all done with locally milled eastern white cedar.

This Gilmour Street porch rebuild presented the unique challenge of blending new and old building materials and aesthetics with the end goal of a build that would look identical to the structure’s former glory. Original pillars were salvaged, while plinths and railings were milled to match. The second-floor porch saw significant upgrades, with new French doors from Gentek Building Products - Canada – with custom interior and exterior mouldings produced in house to match the original – local white cedar decking, and proper waterproofing, flashing and eavestrough to prevent rot and decay long term to the entirety of the structure. A rewarding build for a fantastic client in one of Peterborough’s iconic neighbourhoods.

Basement renovations are a great way to create functional living space in previously underutilized spaces in your home. For this project we turned an unfinished basement into a welcoming family-friendly space. Additionally, we added a three-piece bathroom and a new tilt and turn window which now provides access to the client’s backyard. An incoming gas fireplace from Friendly Fires will round out this recently completed project.

A new look for these railings and porches on this classic home. Using paint grade pine from Peacock Lumber, the custom millwork for this project has created a unique railing and spindle profile that makes this already eye-catching home stand out. Upgraded local white cedar decking for the lower porches rounded out this exciting job.

We recently wrapped our Modern Studio build on Lower Buckhorn Lake for some great return clients. This off grid bunkie takes advantage of an abundance of natural lighting and the fantastic views on the property to create a secluded retreat in the woods. Interior finishes provided by Monaghan. Exterior finishes provided by Gentek Building Products - Canada and Havelock Metal Co.

A custom built 10x16’ workshop on Clear Lake. This project came together nicely with local white cedar for exterior finishes, and maximizes natural light with French doors and windows on all sides.
