This week is Eating Disorders Awareness Week, a time to reflect on how our everyday conversations about bodies, food, and movement can shape health and well-being, especially for children and youth.
Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions. They don't have a single cause, and they affect people of all ages, genders, and body sizes. What does matter is the environment we create, starting at home. Comments about weight, "good" or "bad" foods, or food guilt, even when well-intended, can have lasting impacts.
The images we're sharing highlight simple, respectful ways to interrupt unsafe conversations and replace them with language that supports body trust, food neutrality, and emotional safety. These small shifts help children and families build healthier relationships with food and their bodies over time.
At Minto-Mapleton Family Health Team, we believe prevention includes supporting mental health, reducing stigma, and promoting compassionate, evidence-informed care. If you or someone you love is struggling, support is available.
💙 Awareness starts with listening. Change starts with how we speak.
