I'm getting to know a lovely 13 year old who takes life seriously. It's not that she doesn't know how to be playful, or that she doesn't have a sense of humour. Things just seem to bother her, injustices are intolerable and anxiety is always lurking.

One of the first things anxiety steals is our breath. As overwhelm highjacks the body, the brain flips the switch into primal/limbic mode and the body conserves energy (survival mechanism) by breathing only with our upper body (chest). Full breaths, using the diaphragm will slow down and then break the fear spiral downward into panic.

With only a little guidance, and willingness, she experienced the relief and fun of full "waterfall" breaths which begin at the top of the head. By engaging her imagination, she was able to let go of the illogic of breathing this way and play!

And in less than 2 minutes her face softened, tension left her chest, her thoughts slowed and anxiety dropped.
She successfully processed overwhelm/trauma using her body!

...shine anyway! It's not how we show up on a good day, that's easy. It's how we love difficult people and do we stay centred under pressure. If you are blown about by every wind, swayed by circumstances, unsure of who you actually are or struggle to see the big picture...counselling can help with that!

I was so disappointed when this painting didn't turn the way I envisioned it. It was inspired by my spiritual journey, and my artistic response to an assignment. I hung it anyway with a feeling of incompleteness. Over 20 years later, I added the golden flower in response to another assignment. That’s when the satisfaction of giving myself time and space came. I still have a sense that it's not done...and that's good...I've still got some living and growing to do!

Learning to be okay with undone-ness,
accepting reality as it is even when we wish it were different and loving others as they are without pushing for change takes grace and creates room for more. It's an approach to living, an attitude that brings deeper peace.

We recently moved and all the plants are so happy. New life is sprouting and blooming all over our home!

This is the fruit of change, the willingness to get uncomfortable, effort, completing and cleaning up old business.

Hmm two years later again...seems I have a two year growth cycle!
Being aware of our patterns is a huge help. Looking at the timing of events in our past can support the undoing of unwanted cycles while also harnessing the power of the things we want to keep. Counselling and therapy can help you get yourself sorted.

Thankfully, flexibility is part of the human design. In trauma recovery we focus on this natural ability, to gently soften into expansion by addressing overwhelm. Most clients are genuinely surprised at the abundant resources already in their lives...part of contraction is the forgetting of tools and skills they've already acquired (it was the same for me, I was there for over 20 years).

I adore rainbows! This one was flashing in the breeze the other day as I hung out laundry. So small, easily missed, delicate yet strong, trustworthy and quiet. Beauty is like that. It shows up softly and helps in ways nothing else can.

I have countless photos of clothes hanging on a line. Something about it speaks peace to me—the sway, the light, the simplicity.

But these clothespins, oh forget it. They spring apart at will, and do not last (don't get me started on the plastic ones). Then I found this rope-twisting method from India—no pins needed at all.

It reminded me how often we cling to what’s familiar, even when it no longer serves us. Spirit is always offering new ways, fresh rhythms, even in the simplest routines.
