I don’t self promote much. When I started my practice from nothing, I wanted families to feel like we gave them the most chstom treatment plan for their child and family. For every family to feel like we were their biggest cheerleaders. To feel like we are all friends and that everything will be okay.

I’m proud to say we achieve this, every day, because we love what we do and most of all, we care about each of you 🩷

For the love of science! These thoughts are my clinical observations from the hundreds of hours behind a screen these past months. These are not evidence based facts (yet).

Did you read that article about languishing recently? Ever wondered if it also applies to children? I think so. While the conversation this past year has revolved around children’s resiliency, it would be unfair to dismiss the effects this pandemic (likely) has on them.

Many of the children I see have not been around peers. Read that again. Children and adults thrive on seeing and imitating peers, copying and learning behaviours and social expectations. Social motivation, the desire to do what others are doing, is at all time low in toddlers. Imitation skills are the lowest I’ve seen them in my years of practice.

But there’s more! Families are hanging on by a thread and admittedly use crutches like screens just to get them through the day. School and daily demands have become almost optional, because truly, that’s the last fight any parent wants to pick. And remember, you hired me for results. I will push your child as far as I think they can go. Your time and money are far too precious for me to not ask for one more repetition.

I’m not done. Ever picked up your child from somewhere and thought ‘wow, they behave so good with them but not with me?’. Yeah, that usually happens in speech too. My therapy, my rules. While the same applies for virtual therapy, (exhausted) parents are often the ones having to manage kids pushing the boundaries (like when they run away, or spill water all over the table). Children just don’t react the same with their parents as they do with their providers. When I see a child in person, I can easily physically redirect them. Child hides under the table? I’m crawling under there with them to do therapy (thank you and ).

Now before you write off virtual therapy, all my kiddos have been successful this past year, some even more than in person. All modes of treatment have their benefits and challenges. Let’s just say this past year, we’ve had to get creative and well…pivot! What do you think? Tell me in the comments below 👇🏻

Pause and reset.

You may have noticed my absence.
You may have heard my silence.
You may have observed my going rogue and off brand.

I had a conversation recently with a friend who told me she ‘needs to be more like others who are so consistent with their social media’.

My response surprised even me. I said ‘not me. I can think of a million other things I’d rather do’.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the connections I’ve made here.
I love sharing free and accessible information to serve you all.
I love that I’ve encouraged you to ask for help.
I love that I’ve helped women struggling with infertility.

But it’s a lot.
The world is a lot.
Infertility is a lot.
Giving every ounce of you to everyone is a lot.
Running a business is a lot.
Dealing with the not so nice few of you is a lot.Trying to constantly be better is a lot.

So I’m learning to prioritize. Learning to accept not being great at everything. Learning about the tough conversations the world is having. Learning to live my life, my way.

What you can expect from me?
- Authenticity. No tricks, no gimmicks. Just real.
- Speech and language content, yep, with some life thrown in there (surprise, I’m a real person!)
- Support, always

I will never beg you for engagement. I will never buy followers. I will never ask you for anything in return. Playing the Instagram games isn’t for me. And that’s okay.

I’ll be dropping tons of news soon. It’s been a lot of work, but all worth it!

With love,

A.

The most powerful language you can teach your children is respect and equality.

Teach your girls to be so confident, they aren't afraid to say 'no'. Teach them to love their bodies and their minds enough to not be threatened by others in the room. Teach them to hold hands with other women and say 'we got this'.

Teach your boys to be so confident, they ask women for their opinion. Teach them to admire a woman's place in the workforce enough to participate in household chores. Teach them to stand up for women and say 'SHE is speaking'.

Happy International Women's Day!

If you're worried your child won't 'sit through speech therapy', let me reassure you. Speech therapy involves play-based intervention.

Why? Because children learn through play.

Also, let's be real, I want your child to want to come back. It's a lot of pressure to be fun!
