Process photos. I was invited to contribute to an upcoming group show- my first ever gallery show!! ‘Cum Grano Salis’, at Redhead Gallery, 401 Richmond St., Toronto, ON. March 4 - 28. So excited!

The theme is science fiction/climate fiction, so my piece reflects on climate change, a dystopian future, and the possible extinction of vulnerable species such as great white sharks. It will be a papier-maché and paper collage work in the round, approximately 40 cm in diameter.

To prepare for an art piece I’m working on, I’ve been exploring building forms with recycled egg carton pulp, starting with simple vessels like plates and bowls. They’re covered in thin, printed papers like napkins or tissue, or upcycled candy wrapper foil, and some are painted with acrylics. Then I varnish them with hard Mod Podge and sit back and go, “Well, that was quick!”. JK, 😆 The whole process, from starting the pulp to four coats of varnish fully dried takes about a *week*. Mind you, I do three or four at a time.

I sold a few at the recent holiday market (thanks, .hang !), and am thinking about setting up an online store for these and other creations. I really like the results, but I’d welcome your thoughts on any or all of this.

My one and only appearance at a holiday market is on Saturday, November 22 at St. Luke Anglican Church. 904 Coxwell Avenue (at Cosburn Avenue). 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Come say hi and maybe pick up a few handmade goodies for someone’s stocking or your tree! All products include recycled or re-purposed materials, which guarantees a spot on Santa’s ‘Good’ list. 😉🎄🎁🎅🤶

Just did a workshop for .ca at Allan Gardens. As usual, I was too busy to remember to take a lot of pics, but these prove it happened 😄. I LOVED the creativity! You can see an example of pulp painting and stencil shapes that some of the participants did. So beautiful. 😻

A new project I started about a month ago. I was asked to be part of a group show coming up in March at (so excited!), curated by my friend .

I wanted to try composing images with collaged fragments from magazine photos - I’m calling it ‘collage mosaic’ - maybe not a new idea, but new to me. I also want to create something in response to humanity’s sometimes callous consumption, at the expense of our home planet. And I fixated on roadkill as an example of that kind of casual, unthinking cruelty.

More recently, I was asked to be one of the presenters at a talk about the ‘Alchemy of Creativity’, organized at a local church by my friends Judy, a sculptor, and .ca. Twelve artist, including myself and , talking about one chosen art piece and our reflections on its creation and the creative process in general. So, I figured this would be h the perfect motivator to get this project underway.

It was a thoughtful and engaging afternoon, and the variety and depth of experience was humbling. Thanks to Judy, and Kaz, and Woodbine Heights Baptist Church for hosting this.

Anyhoo, here are some process shots, from the first photo I took of that perfect, exquisitely-lit pigeon, to the final outcome of my current experiment. It’s going to lead me now to the creation of a bigger piece for the Redhead Gallery show - on the overall theme of science fiction/ climate fiction. Can’t wait to get started!!
