The UCP has shared that we’re in a surplus in the billions and it is my opinion that a good part of that surplus should go towards supporting indigenous people who are houseless!

There are some amazing initiatives like Niginan Housing Ventures that could use more support, and I would love to see the United Conservative Party of Alberta fund them in an effort to uphold the promises they made during elections!

It’s an 🍊 kind of day ✨

Also, if you haven’t checked out Community Natural Foods off 104 ST and Whyte yet I highly recommend it!

While there are definitely some high ticket items, they have good sales too if you look for them! 🏷️

This year I am committing to investing in my health and one of the ways I’m doing that is through good food! 🥗

What’s your favorite healthy snack/meal to make?👩🏻‍🍳

Thank you to yesterday’s walkers for joining me on a walk through the river valley!

land is beautiful, and we must protect it and the people who live on it (I mean ALL people, especially those who are indigenous to the land and know it’s secrets).

The genocide and ethnic cleansing we’re seeing in the Middle East is not exclusive to that part of the world, in fact, indigenous people in Canada along with black people and other people of colour are similarly being targeted at disproportionate rates. Why? Because our colonial system is intentionally set up to keep some people ⬆️ and others ⬇️.

It truly is a situation of the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and often times, the poor get sick and sometimes even lose their lives 😔

Contrary to popular belief, is NOT “cheaper”, or more fiscally responsible, to increase our police budget to “deal with” houselessness and substance use on our streets. All that does is kill people who are struggling and cost tax payers even MORE money!

The way to eradicate houselessness isn’t to kill off people who are houseless, it’s to provide them with housing! Not only will this save tax payers a lot of money (I.e., it decreases the cost of hiring more police and hospital staff to “deal with” the encampments, injuries and illnesses reactively), it will save people lives.

We NEED to shift from being reactive (and spending exorbitant amounts of money) to proactive (and saving taxpayers money while saving lives!)

If you are unsure whether what I’m saying is true or not, feel free to read the article that outlines how much money Medicine Hat saved when they invested in housing (and housed almost all of their houseless population!)

You can read it here: https://nextcity.org/urbanist-news/medicine-hat-alberta-canada-city-chronic-homelessness

“The city’s 2019 progress report found that while it costs Medicine Hat between $12,000-$34,000 annually per individual to provide housing and support, the cost of providing resources to people on the street can cost up to $120,000 a year per person.”

It’s possible to save lives AND our money y’all, and it’s time!!

The City has launched a new bus service that will run nightly all winter to ensure vulnerable Edmontonians will have a warm and safe way to get to emergency shelters.

Two buses will run now until March 31, 2024, along north and south routes. Staff will be on each bus to support passengers with access to available shelter spaces and referrals to other services.

Throwback to when Instagram first existed and ALL I did was take photos and edit them 🦾

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how amazing our city and the people in it are, and I’m curious:

If you could make better, what’s one thing you would change? Remove? Add?

For me,

I’d like to add a whole lot more inclusion and a heck of a lot less police funding.

Not because police don’t have their place in our city, just because our force is overfunded compared to other major cities in Canada- even ones that are larger in size (population and area).

Makes you wonder… why Edmonton? We’ve got good people!

Let me know in the comments or via DM what your thoughts are 💭

There are no wrong thoughts! 🙅🏻‍♀️
