I love to write ... it helps me work through emotions and fears, celebrate and express joy, makes me laugh ... and cry ... and so many other things 😁

I also was in perpetual hiding, afraid to write, and if I did write, I was so terrified to share it ... sometimes in that shaking fear with that quavering voice, even pounding heart palpitations.

A few years ago, I started working through my fears and self-doubts with and through writing, and I am so grateful I did that!!

My friend Bonnie Hutchinson is a writer, amongst other things. She writes a column for an Alberta newspaper, has published multiple books, and of course has a weekly newsletter.

Bonnie's most recent book is called "REFLECTIONS: Celebrating 10 Years of Wit and Wisdom in East Central Alberta".

Bonnie is also an editor and teacher, and one of her offerings is called "Write From Your Heart", where she combines both of those things with all her writing knowledge and life experiences for the benefit of the aspiring writers who take her classes.

I attended this program a few years ago, and am so thankful I did!! I mostly write for myself, with some blog posts here and there, or posts for this page. And attending "Write From Your Heart" helped me get much more comfortable with my self-expression through writing, and then sharing my words, and myself ☺️

Whether you want to write for yourself or for a wider audience, this program can support and benefit you.

Bonnie and I had a conversation this morning about my experiences of "Write From Your Heart", and how it has affected my life and my writing.

If you have a secret desire to write and have been too afraid to start, or maybe you're working on that book you've always wanted to publish, whatever your writing needs are, this program could be the right place for you πŸ˜βœοΈπŸ™

This is taught live online weekly and runs from next Thursday, September 25, through to December 11, 2025. I will put a link to check out the details in the comments, and from there you can register if you're called to 😍🀩

February is officially over for another year ... it is soon midnight here in Edmonton.

There have been many lessons, emotions, and experiences this month. For such a short month, it sure feels like it has been a long haul.

But in about 40 minutes from now, at least in my timezone, a new month is beginning.

Yesterday was a new moon, also about new beginnings. And new beginnings are new opportunities to ask for what you need, what you would like more of, what you would like to shift/change/heal.

So in this moment, I choose to call in what I would like to create, experience, and heal at this time. Seems like a great way to end a month of change and deep healing in preparation for the new month ahead.

Regardless what is ending for you or what you would like to call in now, Reiki can bless and support you on your journey. And if you're not sure what is ending, what is beginning, or what to call in or ask for - well, that doesn't really matter.

Reiki, that energy of divine love, that universal life force energy, knows...and we can just intend for and ask Reiki to flow ... and it always will.

Suddenly I am feeling such hope - March is typically a transition month here where I live. The huge drifts of snow are melting, roads are wet, slushy, dirty, with water pooling everywhere.

We may still get some more snow and below freezing temperatures again, but March signals that spring is on its way! The white of winter becomes the muddy water of March which then leads into the wonder of spring - woohoo!!

Reiki Blessings, everyone!

In January, I really struggled with making the commitment to post here every day for the month of February.

This would be the fifth year in a row I was going to do it. I felt I wanted to, yet I had difficulty with committing, and with deciding what the theme for the month would be.

But I got inspired … I committed … and nothing went as I thought it would.

So here I am. The month is ending tomorrow, and I feel like I’ve been πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ running a marathonπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ.

πŸ₯± I am so tired in a drained mentally exhausted kind of way 😴. And my January self-debate about writing daily in February seems like a lifetime ago.

Eventually I let go of the need to write every day this month just because it’s what I have done the last four years.

Many things have happened this month, in my life, in many other lives around me, and globally.

And Reiki has gotten me through it all.

I have not written every day.

✍️ I wrote on the days when I needed to write.

✍️ I wrote on the days when there were stories or lessons that wanted to be told.

✍️ I wrote about the things that were in the front of my mind, no matter how vulnerable I then felt in the writing.

I’m not sure if today is the last day of writing, or if I will post again tomorrow to wrap this month up.

No matter whether I write again tomorrow or not … 🫢 I am grateful for the early inspiration to commit to this month.

🫢 I am grateful for the lessons and reminders of how deeply Reiki heals and supports.

🫢 I am even grateful for the marathon this month became.

And if I were brutally honest, 🫢 I am grateful that tomorrow is the last day of February. The end of my commitment πŸ™ … and the continuation of my journey with Reiki πŸ˜‡.

One last thing, just for today - if I don’t write tomorrow, it is for my own self-care. Maybe I’ll write about it instead on another day - in March? April? or some other time? Who knows. At this moment, I don’t … and that’s ok πŸ˜€

And in case today is the last day I post for this month, I would like to close with the Reiki precepts. Five profoundly simple statements that remind me of a deeply spiritual way of living, and that Reiki is my way … the Reiki Way 360.

πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™
Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Earn your living honestly.
Honor your elders, teachers and parents.
Show kindness to every living thing.
πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Reiki Blessings, everyone!

A dear friend has a dear friend who is visiting her from Mexico. This past weekend, her friend was out walking her dog in a park when she got knocked down by an unsupervised dog who was on the run. The man was ... watering the bushes shall we say.

The guy then took off - ignoring the injured woman's calls for help as she laid on the ground, in a poor cell-reception area, to fend for herself.

The injured woman was eventually able to reach my friend, and help was on the way. The paramedics were called. A very kind stranger walked the path the injured woman was on in one direction while my friend walked the path in the other direction, until they found her.

My friend took control of her friend's dog and they were able to direct the paramedics to the injured woman.

Unfortunately, as the paramedics got close, her dog suddenly got spooked and bolted. My friend, who was holding the leash, got pulled off her feet, injuring her elbow, hip and knee.

Sigh ...

I was so triggered ... judgement for the man who took off after his dog knocked down a woman flared instantly. I was so angry he left her lying on the ground with a serious leg break that now requires surgery to repair it, with a 3-month recovery period.

I fixated on "How could he? What the h***? What an a**hole!" and that started to trigger some of my old fears and limiting beliefs...and my own old trauma.

I spiralled into - Being a woman means you're weak ... treated like crap ... left to "die" alone on the ground ...

Fortunately, I caught myself going down that path into blaming others, shame at being a "weak" female, with no rights, and no one will help me.

With the help of my Reiki practice, I turned myself back around again.

It wasn't easy ... I was so upset for my friend, her friend, and their injuries, and even the dog who was traumatized and tried to bolt, unintentionally injuring my friend.

Eventually I was able to start to think about the ways that Reiki could help in that situation.

For example, some obvious ways are:
- healing for both women's physical injuries
- healing for both women's mental and emotional traumas at being so unexpectedly knocked off their feet causing such physical harm

Some potentially less obvious ways are:
- asking Reiki to guide the hearts and hands of all the medical personnel involved in both their care
- asking Reiki to find the right and perfect hospital and orthopedic surgeon
- asking Reiki to guide them to medical transport that could get the injured woman off-island to a bigger center

And from a purely personal perspective:
- asking Reiki to heal my heart ... help me release my old traumas and wounding that can still be triggered by events like this that aren't even mine.
- Asking Reiki to help me have compassion for the person who ran from the scene.
- Asking Reiki to help me release my judgement - even my judgement of myself for my feelings toward the man who ran.

Do I understand how or why he could leave her there, lying on the ground?

Absolutely not.

But I am now able to consider that perhaps his own wounding, fears, guilt or whatever emotions he was experiencing at that moment triggered him to run instead of staying and helping.

In hindsight, I have not always acted in those moments the way I wish I had. Sometimes it was reaction and fear, instead of action and reason. That could also be true for this man.

And I realize I am back to what has turned out to be a theme for this month of writing ...

Show kindness to every living being...

EVERY living being ... not just the ones who are easy to have compassion for. Including myself ... and the man who ran.

Reiki Blessings, everyone!

Yesterday was a somber day, with much reflection and remembrances, as can happen when the more significant events of life occur.

Things were eventful, both in my world, and in the world.

At some point I realized I was going down that rabbit hole of why ...
- why do "bad" things happen?
- why is this person allowed to do these things?
- why did that person do those things?
- why doesn't someone do something?

And even ... why them? Why now? Why me?

Suddenly I pulled myself up short ... it felt like literally. My head snapped up, shoulders squared ... and I thought ... "No. I am not giving any more energy to these things that I cannot change or fix."

Instead, I chose to give my energy, my thoughts, my focus on sending out love and healing into this world that so needs it. Sharing Reiki for those I knew who needed it, and then for those that I didn't know but who still needed it.

If you are in the state of "why?", may Reiki bring you peace and healing of your pain, and may you find your strength.

If you are in the place of sending love and healing out into this world, may Reiki guide you. Together, we can heal our world.

And if you are in both "why?" AND "how can I help?", like so many of us are these days, may Reiki guide you and bring you peace.

May Reiki support and comfort you, and may Reiki bring you back to yourself and your purpose.

And, just for today, show kindness to every living being ...

Reiki Blessings, everyone!

I want to talk about Reiki and death ... well, maybe want to is too strong πŸ₯Ή but events of the day certainly brought this up.

I drove a dear friend and her cat Miss Austin to the vet clinic today. So often a visit to the vet is about healing an injury, getting medicine of some sort, or something "fixable".

Miss Austin was not "fixable" so today's visit was for euthanization ... she had reached the end of her 17 year journey.

Today was also a weekly Reiki circle that my friend has attended since the very first day.

So this day has been all about Reiki, and healing and transition ... a day of support for both my friend and her cat. My friend is the one who always steps up for someone else needing support - especially for a sick animal.

Now it's her turn to receive.

Today, we were there for my friend and Miss Austin. Reiki was present for us all.

It was also a reminder of how we are all connected. Someone dear to my friend who had no idea where we were and what we were doing, woke up in the very wee hours of the morning where she was at the time we were at the vet saying good-bye. As she said, no coincidences.

Reiki can be supportive in so many situations and circumstances. Today, it was for Miss Austin's transition, to support my friend in her grief, and to support the rest of us who were present in circle or at the vet.

Today, Reiki was also flowing for the vet clinic staff who have known and cared for Miss Austin all these years.

And Reiki will continue to be there for us all, even in, or maybe especially in, death.

Reiki Blessings everyone!

For yesterday, Feb 19/25 ...

I was going to skip the writing for yesterday as I was in having a medical procedure done that was necessary for both diagnostic and healing purposes.

However, I realized this morning that it's the PERFECT opportunity to write about the beauty of how Western medicine and Reiki can complement each other.

The procedure yesterday typically is accomplished with a slight sedation that would make me sleepy but was not a full anesthetic with intubation. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the general surgeon needed to call in an anesthetist part way through so that they could finish up and I could be protected and supported in a deeper way.

I woke up feeling fabulous ... happy and free!!

Today, I realize that was the perfect blend of the Western medical team and support yesterday, my body being ready and willing yesterday to release what no longer serves me, and the Reiki that others had shared with all aspects of my journey to yesterday.

And I still feel fabulous today!! No after or side effects, only hope and excitement for my future health!!

Reiki Blessings, everyone!!

I read something recently about work-life balance, and the author said that for people with a full-time job or a demanding part-time job, that might be almost impossible.

As I started to think about that, what it meant for someone with a "normal" full-time job, my mind went to:
- the theory is, I spend 8 hours working, 8 hours sleeping, which left 8 hours for the rest of life...
- that seemed somewhat balanced ...

Except:
- going to work often involves travel time, let's say 1.0 hour
- I may not get paid for lunch, so that adds let's say 1.0 hour
- the other two meals of the day take time, with some sort of prep, cooking, cleanup time, let's say 1.5 hours
- there is bath/shower time, morning/bedtime routine, let's say 1.0 hour

And suddenly, there goes 4.5 hours out of your "life balance" time, and that's without:
- taking kids to school or extracurricular activities
- taking classes
- any gym, yoga, workout time
- walking the dog
- buying groceries
- doing laundry
- cleaning your home
- any of the other endless chores that come with daily living.

Does life balance mean taking time for the things that aren't "necessary"? Like reading a book, meditating, soaking in a hot bath, quiet time, listening to music or whatever it is we do to relax and rejuvenate ourselves, to save our sanity?

It's no wonder we are such a sleep-deprived society. We give up sleep in order to do all the things that need doing during our off-work hours, especially if we want to do something "selfish", that nourishes us, brings us joy.

The author went in a different direction ... he talked about finding ways for our work to be more enjoyable. To love something about what we do. To ease our relationships with co-workers or our boss. And in all those cases, to ask Reiki to help you.

That made perfect sense - ask Reiki for guidance, for support, even for work-life balance. It may even be that you ask Reiki to help you find a new job...

Whichever way your mind goes with this idea of work-life balance, Reiki can help you find ways to either enjoy and appreciate your work, or find ways to bring that life balance.

Reiki Blessings, everyone!!

"Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness." - Desmond Tutu

Winter is a time of darkness. The days are shorter, and here in Alberta, temperatures are so cold right now with the windchill that it is very uncomfortable, even dangerous, to spend time outdoors.

Winter is also a time of introspection and healing ... working through the shadows of our life.

When darkness or shadows start to feel too much for you to manage, your Reiki self-practice becomes even more important.

Place your hands in Gassho, or prayer, position. Close your eyes and connect to Reiki, Source, Divine Love. Breathe that energy in, and connect to yourself, to Reiki, to love.

Then place your hands on your heart chakra, or anywhere on your body that is comfortable ... and simply allow Reiki to flow, to balance, to heal ...

Feel the Light within you once again illuminate the shadows.

As your Light shines within you, it can bring hope to someone else who might also be floundering in the darkness.

Reiki Blessings, everyone!!

Every Saturday for the past 1.5 years or so, I have hosted a private virtual Reiki healing circle on Zoom. It started as a way for me to support my Reiki teacher Susan, whom I have now known for about 25 years.

I invited a small group of close friends who all had Reiki in common, and we all came together through Susan in one way or another. The group then expanded to include some of my Reiki students, or someone in our group knew someone who wanted to join, and on from there.

While this healing circle started out as a way to support my Reiki teacher and long-time friend on her journey with cancer, it has expanded to include so many other people, animals and situations.

One thing that has thrilled Susan is how this community has grown and expanded. She is after all, a Reiki teacher, and loves hearing how other people are being supported and are growing and expanding through our circle.

We went from being a few friends supporting someone we love and admire, to a community of like-minded people wanting to bring healing to the world in some meaningful way.

Whatever your journey, whatever your inspiration, whether you are offering support or need it, being in community with like-minded people also brings support and healing to everyone participating. May Reiki guide you to your community, your circle, where you are welcomed and loved exactly as you are.

Share your love and support for others today - maybe it’s smiling at a passing stranger, offering a tissue to the crying teenager on the train, holding the door for someone bustling in out of the cold, or hosting your own circle of like-minded people for some purpose bigger than ourselves. The rewards are limitless …

Reiki Blessings, everyone!

Today’s inspiration came from a friend on a zoom call earlier today.

We were talking about 🩷🩷 compassion 🩷🩷 …

How it is so much easier to show compassion to others than ourselves…

And how much harder it is to 🩷🩷 RECEIVE 🩷🩷 compassion from others than it is to GIVE compassion …

It was a beautiful message to receive today, on Valentine’s Day - that message to love ourselves, show compassion to ourselves, and open to receive compassion, and maybe even love, from others.

Today, just for today, 🩷🩷 show kindness to every living thing 🩷🩷 … which includes yourself!!

🩷🩷 Love Yourself 🩷🩷 … all of you …
