OTs focus on the activities that give daily life meaning at home, work and in the community.

Daily activities include the skills required for the “job of living.” (This is where the word “occupation” comes from in occupational therapy!)

Occupational therapists in Alberta work in a wide range of practice settings—spanning educationalinstitutions, community health centres, rehabilitation facilities, long-term care, and many more.

This diversity reflects the many ways OTs support people in participating in occupations and improving their quality of life.

ACOT exists to serve the public interest.

Our responsibility is to regulate all occupational therapists in Alberta by ensuring they are:

• properly qualified
• registered to practice
• consistently meeting our Standards of
Practice and Code of Ethics

It’s important to know the difference between the organizations that support the profession.

September 30, 2025, is Canada’s 5th National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This honours the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.
As public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process, ACOT will be closed on Tuesday September 30th.

ACOT staff will be reflecting on readings and participating in activities designed to bring greater awareness of the truth about Canada’s history and the need for reconciliation.
