Elderberry PLUS syrup/elexir
I have decided it's time for me to branch out and share my Elderberry elixir/syrup. I have been making it for a few years now, just for my own families personal use. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, which lowers my immune system drastically. Being a very busy single mom, I needed to come up with some sort of "concoction" that was able to boost my immunity and keep me healthy or at very least trim time off of being sick. This works!!! As long as I'm taking the Syrup I am rarely sick and if by chance I do catch something it's only days instead of weeks or months!
Each batch is slightly different but the main ingredients remain the same and potent. Elderberries, fresh ginger, fresh lemons, cloves, star anise, cinnamon and local raw honey. I cycle other ingredients such as cranberries, pineapple, blueberries, oranges, apples and limes as well. Just depends what is in the shops at the time I am making a brew.
This syrup is a thinner consistancy which makes it versatile, which I love. It's a perfect way to liven up your water bottle and flavor your hot water for tea. It works perfect as a liquid in your smoothie and makes super yummy and healthy popsicles. It can be frozen in cubes for easy access, just throw one or two into your water bottle or smoothie and off you go. For those super sore throats, I have made mini ice cubes that you can pop in your mouth and suck on to relieve the burn. Add it to your soda water to make a nice, sparkling, fruity drink. You can even add it to your favorite alcoholic summer time beverage. Best of both worlds 😉
For daily maintenance use 1-2 tablespoon per day (or more if your like me). Take up to 3-5 tablespoons a day if actively sick. I take in half to full ounce doses 3-4 times a day. For children use in teaspoon measures
