📣 Exhibition Announcement!! 📣

Join us Friday, September 26th for the opening reception of Seasons, featuring works by artists Faye HeavyShield, Jennine Krauchi, and Jerry Saddleback

🍃 Opening Reception: September 26 from 4-7PM
🍂 Exhibition Run: September 26- December 6 2025
🌨 Gallery Hours: Wednesdays-Saturdays, from 12-5PM

Seasons are a time of new beginnings, they represent stages of life and offer a way to adapt to and embrace change. Seasons are deeply integrated into Indigenous cultural worldviews, offering a way to connect through land-based practices and understand transitions in a way that is interconnected to family, community, land, and the spirit world. Fall and winter are storytelling seasons, food gathering and hunting is seasonal, and the time to practice art-making such as beadwork can also be seasonally informed.

The exhibition features renowned artists Faye HeavyShield, Jennine Krauchi, and Jerry Saddleback who explore the transitions we experience through life. With many layers of meaning, we see a bow symbolizing the hunting period, family photos reflecting generational shifts, and a moss bag representing childhood as a sacred gift from the Creator. Each of these moments evokes a constant state of change and transformation, unfolding gradually over time.

We are so grateful that the artists will be in attendance for the opening reception, so come by to visit, snack, celebrate, and spend time with their beautiful works ✨

We have lots of seeds at the shop too from Steph!

Free seeds! I have some seeds to gift away to anyone in need! All I ask is that you pick up north Edmonton. I am close to major transit and Belvedere LRT. Sometimes the cost of seeds($3-$5 per pack) can be a barrier to folks, I get it, I’ve been there! Growing your own food can be an empowering way to address food insecurity for yourself, your family and your community! I am always here to help with ideas if you need help getting started! This seed gift away was made possible through a micro grant supporting food security initiatives in Edmonton by

Kistehitah kimeskanām (honour your journey/road) is a project arising from the identification of unmarked graves at former residential school sites across Turtle Island. It comes from a vision of a path lined with baby moccasins leading to a beautiful healing lodge. A pipe ceremony was held for the start of this project with Elder Ruth Cardinal de Ubiera in 2021.

The little moccasins (maskisina), moss bags (wâspisona) and baby star blankets created as part of this project will honour the children who were sent to the schools as well as the new spirits coming into the world today.

An Elder or knowledge keeper will join us to share teachings and language.

Items made during the workshop will be gathered together in ceremony and then gifted to little ones arriving from the spirit world, which means the maskisina, wâspisona and star blankets created during this workshop will not go home with participants.

You will go home with skills that can be used to make more crafts and be shared with others. Take home patterns and instructions will be provided.

Questions? Email kistehitahkimeskanam@gmail.com

As always...many thanks to our funder ECALA and our partner
Dickensfield Amity House for making these workshops possible.
