Jan 22nd 2023!

Bikers Helping Kids will be hosting an online QPR course through Zoom. This is an internationally recognized and certified course with over 5 million people trained worldwide already in QPR, and we are very pleased to be able to present this to community 100% Free and anyone in North America is welcome to attend. Spots will fill fast and you do need to pre-register to attend. Click on the link below to register for January 22nd @ 10:00 am MST

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help someone who is suicidal by acquiring the necessary skills to make a potentially life-saving intervention.

Just like people who are trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver and have help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a su***de crisis. We learn how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Learning QPR is just as important in a mental health emergency, you never know when you’re going to need to use it.

QPR is an evidence-based su***de prevention program used all over the world. It is not intended as a form of counselling or treatment, but can be used by anyone to help question people about suicidal thoughts, persuade them to get help and refer them to the appropriate professional resources.

Bikers Helping Kids is proud to offer another free online community mental health training. Our next certified session is May 15th through Zoom if you would like to learn about youth mental health. These two amazing sessions teach us about how our early brains are impacted by trauma. We change our perspectives when relating to someone with a trauma history from “What is wrong with you?” to “What has happened to you?”.

Sunday May 15th 2022

9:00 am - 3:30 pm MST

Sciences of Hope: Brain Science and Resilience (9 am - noon)
&
Trauma-Informed Care (12:30 - 3:30 pm)
‘ Sciences of Hope: Brain Science & Resilience’
– a 3 hour certified community training session which explores early brain development & the impacts of trauma on the developing brain; as well as how our early life experiences shape our adult experiences.

‘Trauma-Informed Care Approach’

– a 3 hour certified community training session which applies the knowledge learned about the impacts of childhood/youth/adult trauma(s) and how community supporters can best support individuals (and themselves) with a trauma background. This session teaches supporters to use a universal lens of “What has happened to you?”, rather than “What is wrong with you?”.
Reminder to please register if you are planning on attending Sunday’s free training, it is open to anyone 16+ and a Canadian resident. You will receive your confirmation with the Zoom link you need to access the group session after you register.

It’s been a busy spring for Bikers Helping Kids and we would like to give a big shout out to Roby Trucking who made a $3000 donation which allowed a couple of us to complete the QPR instructors training!!!

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help someone who is suicidal by acquiring the necessary skills to make a potentially life-saving intervention.

Seasons Greetings!!!

I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a warm and safe holiday season on behalf of myself, my family and Bikers Helping Kids.

Bikers Helping Kids had a very busy summer with youth events, burn out competition, PTSD awareness ride in B.C. and I loved connecting a with community at the CASA Youth Advisory Councils Youth Mental Health Wellness event - a must attend for next year!!!

I also want to take the time to recognize, with deep gratitude, everyone who has taken the time to connect with our training, all of our supporters and sponsors, especially Farlinger and Associates who helped us to raise over $3000.00 in 2021!!! All of these funds we raised were donated to support youth camps and youth mental health programs in our community.

December can be a busy and sometimes difficult month for some people. If you know of anyone who may benefit from taking our free certified online training, please know we are offering another Trauma Informed Care Approach session on December 12, 2021. If you or anyone you know is interested just click on the registration link below. I am very proud to say that we have had over 60 certificates issued from our FREE trauma informed care training to date and we plan on doing many more next year!

I want to thank every single person who has encouraged me, trained with me and rode alongside me in this journey so far! I am very grateful to have your support and don’t forget to follow Bikers Helping Kids on social media for new trainings coming in 2022!!!

09/30/2021

September 30, 2021 is Canada’s 1st National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is dedicated to learning, reflecting and educating ourselves about the many Indigenous children who were taken from their families and sent to residential schools. Sadly, many did not get to return home. They were not just numbers; they were children who will never get to grow up and never get to go home. This day and every day forward we must seek to understand the truths about Indigenous historical trauma.

September 30th is also known as Orange Shirt Day. We wear the color orange to honor Phyllis Webstad, her story and the 150,000 Indigenous children just like her who were taken from their families, communities and cultures:

In 1973, at the age of 6, Phyllis Webstad was sent to residential school. Her grandmother bought her a brand new orange shirt to wear on her first day, but when she arrived at the Mission school, she was stripped, and her clothes were taken – including the orange shirt.

“I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t give it back to me, it was mine! The color orange has always reminded me of that and how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared and how I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying and no one cared.” - Phyllis Webstad, Founder, Orange Shirt Society.

You can hear more about Phyllis' story in ‘A Day to Listen’, which is a collaboration to amplify, elevate, and learn from Indigenous voices. Listen at https://m.soundcloud.com/user-820141028/phyllis-webstadt?in=user-820141028/sets/a-day-to-listen

Please take the time to learn more about the historical and current realities of our Indigenous people and residential schools. We encourage you to talk openly within your families and learn together.

It was a busy week for bikers riding for mental health. Bikers Helping Kids headed down to Vancouver to support the @2021 Ride To Recovery.
Met the The Rolling Barrage on the way down, can’t say enough about these guys riding from coast to coast for PTSD awareness, so much respect.
Thank you to Terrance Joseph Kosikar and the Camp My Way team for having me down to the 2021 Ride To Recovery, supporting first responders and their families.
