Did you know? Under the RVT scope of practice in Alberta, an RVT can perform a wellness exam.

You may have already experienced an appointment like this, where an RVT takes the lead in guiding preventive care, answering questions, and supporting both you and your pet’s health. 💚

Practice owners and veterinarians, talk with your RVTs and consider delegating wellness exams to them. It’s a great way to empower your team and strengthen client care.

RVTs bring advanced training, compassion, and technical expertise to every aspect of veterinary medicine. When their skills are fully utilized, teams thrive and animals receive the best possible care.

On October 28, the ABVTA was proud to join our partners, the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - University of Calgary - UCVM, the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology , and Alberta Beef Producers, for Roll Up Your Sleeves: Tackling Alberta’s Veterinary Workforce Shortage at the Legislature.

This interactive event brought together veterinary professionals and legislators to explore the realities of Alberta’s veterinary workforce and the importance of strengthening the talent pipeline across the province.

With hands-on stations hosted by UCVM and NAIT, attendees had the opportunity to experience veterinary education in action and gain a deeper understanding of the collaborative efforts needed to support animal health, rural communities, and Alberta’s food systems.

Thank you to our partners and all who joined the conversation to help shape the future of veterinary medicine in Alberta!

We had a great time connecting with RVTs, colleagues, and industry partners throughout the event. A huge thank-you to the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association for hosting such a great conference, we’re already looking forward to next year!

This collaboration will extend access to thousands of veterinary professionals across Canada, including veterinary technologists and technicians, students, and all veterinary support staff. 💚
