EmployAbilities

EmployAbilities Promoting and enhancing employment and/or learning opportunities for persons with disabilities. Please note that EmployAbilities is not a recruitment agency.

EmployAbilities is a community-based charitable non-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Active in Edmonton, Alberta since 1974, EmpoyAbilities serves people with disabilities and/or barriers to employment living in the Capital region and northern Alberta with a variety of programs and services. We also assist employers in finding staff that are ready, willing, and able

to work - accessing an untapped market to fill their staffing needs. At EmployAbilities, we believe that community and economy are fundamentally intertwined, and that inclusive employment is the best way to build a stronger society and more profitable businesses. We measure success by assisting our clients in finding long-term meaningful employment, and work alongside allied organizations, government partners, and donors to raise awareness of the contributions people with people disabilities make to workplaces. We provide support for people with disabilities and barriers to employment. We provide resources that make them more employable, and help them find a job.

Today we're starting a new feature called "Work Wednesday" - promoting our former clients and celebrating their success in their new jobs.

Greg reached out to EmployAbilities in February 2024 determined to find a job that would accommodate his health challenges and utilize his strong writing ability. Greg was subsequently accepted into the Restart Your Career program where he honed his job search skills and connected with job leads suited to his expertise, prioritizing roles that offered remote or hybrid flexibility to accommodate his physical limitations. On April 8th, Greg received and accepted a full-time technical writing role with YourAlberta (Government of Alberta) and has since advanced his career in the Alberta Public Service. Greg's success serves as a proud achievement for both Greg and EmployAbilities, illustrating our commitment to helping clients find sustainable, fulfilling employment.

2024 was a very special year for EmployAbilities, as it was our 50th year of connecting ability to opportunity. Here are some pics of our community BBQs which were held over the Spring and Summer in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche, St. Paul and Vegreville. Much fun was had (and many, many burgers, hotdogs, bags of chips, and slices of cake were consumed!) Thank you for helping us celebrate.

A therapist referred Brendan to EmployAbilities through the Primary Care Network. He needed help with his resume, interview skills, and additional certifications to make himself more marketable to employers.

He is now employed at a local restaurant. Brendan’s story is an excellent example of successful collaboration and referrals between community programs and services.
