We are the most addicted and medicated group of people to ever have lived. At the same time, rates of mental health and attachment problems are on the rise. Avoidant attachment has increased 56% from 1988 and 2011. It’s also no coincidence that a common maintaining factor across many forms of psychological distress is the avoidance of discomfort. As we develop cultural standards of avoiding challenging feelings, our mental wellbeing paradoxically gets worse.
