What’s the difference between Clinical Hearing Care and Online Hearing Aids?
Let’s break it down.

Clinical Hearing Care:
• Include a comprehensive hearing assessment by a regulated clinician
• Diagnose hearing loss
• Provide medical referrals

Online Hearing Aids:
• Only provide a simple online hearing test and are not regulated
• Cannot diagnose hearing loss
• Cannot provide medical referrals, even if necessary

Additionally, Clinical Hearing Care is provided by regulated and certified Hearing Aid Practitioners or Audiologists, including Doctors of Audiology while Online Hearing Aids are unregulated and not certified, meaning there is only generic and basic attention paid to your medical needs.

What is hearing aid-like technology?
There are two main categories of hearing aid devices:
1. Devices that are fit by a hearing healthcare professional (prescription hearing aids)
2. Devices that are not fit by a hearing healthcare professional (hearing aid-like technology)

A prescription hearing aid is specifically programmed to amplify sound according to an individual’s hearing loss and help to communicate in difficult listening situations. Prescription hearing aids can be customized to fit any type, degree and configuration of hearing loss.

Hearing aid-like technology devices are designed to amplify sound in specific situations and environments. The devices are available online or in stores and include personal sound amplifiers, hearables, wearables and over-the-counter hearing aids.

What is an audiogram?
An audiogram displays the results of your hearing test on a chart for easier interpretation. It is unique to the state of your hearing.

Audiograms can show you:
• How loud sounds needs to be, at varying frequencies, for you to hear them
• If you hear better with one ear over the other ear
• If you hear low pitches better than high pitches

An audiologist will use your audiogram as a starting point for your hearing care to determine the root of your hearing difficulty and the best course of treatment for you.

Understand your hearing today.

What is an audiologist?
An audiologist is a trained medical professional who can diagnose and treat problems related to hearing loss, tinnitus, noise sensitivity and balance.

They can also diagnose disorders that make it difficult to discern differences in the way words sound.

Audiologists can help determine:
• What is the state of the hearing system?
• What is causing hearing challenges?
• How do these hearing challenges impact physical and mental health?
• What is the best treatment, technology and therapy to manage hearing challenges?

Visit an audiologist if you suspect you have hearing loss, if you want to hear better, or if you have ringing in your ears. You can also visit an audiologist to establish a benchmark for the current state of your hearing to compare it in the future.
