Bad breath isn’t just unpleasant, it can be unhealthy. Up to 80% of dogs and 70% of cats that don’t receive dental care may show signs of dental disease by the age of 3.

‼️Be aware of the Kennel Cough outbreak‼️
The number of kennel cough cases we have been seeing lately is way above average. It is contagious, please be aware of Kennel cough symptoms and visit your vet if your dog shows any of the following symptoms;
a strong cough, often with a “honking” sound
runny nose.
sneezing.
lethargy.
loss of appetite.
low fever.

‼URGENT UPDATE REGARDING OUR PROTOCOL FOR COVID-19 ‼

At Rutherford Veterinary Clinic we have taken extra precautions to ensure the safety of clients as well as our staff.

For Appointments, admittance, check-outs, food and supplies pick up will be implemented through CURBSIDE DROP OFF/PICK UP

• The front door will remain LOCKED at all times

• ​Upon arrival, please remain in your vehicle or outside the clinic and give us a call.

•We will be using our leashes only, we ask that you remove your pet’s collar/leash once ours is on.

•Your cat must be in a carrier that we will then disinfect while your cat is being examined.

• After we receive your call, we will take your pet in as soon as possible while you remain in your vehicle.

• One of our technicians will obtain the medical history and note your concern over the phone

• Our Veterinarians will provide the required care for your pet, then call you to discuss any medical findings and answer all questions.

• Payments will be over the phone or we can deliver the machine to your vehicle.

• If you need to be inside our facility, please discuss this request in advance with the clinic manager.

• If you are not feeling well or may be at risk of exposure to COVID-19, please ask a healthy friend or family member to transport your pet to the clinic on your behalf.

• We will not accept cash payments at this time

COVID 19-NEWS LETTER

To our Valued Clients:
We are open for Business and Keeping Albertans safe.
At this time when the news is dominated by Coronavirus, we at Rutherford Veterinary Clinic take our staff and clients' health very seriously. To this effect, we have implemented several enhanced cleaning protocols effective immediately to ensure safety.
Here's what we're doing at Rutherford Veterinary Clinic to protect you and our staff:
* We are encouraging social distancing and asking that one person per family attend appointments. We have no problem with others joining in via phone calls. Our Team Members will be keeping the recommended safe social distance and will not be shaking hands with clients, as suggested by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
* We are asking our staff to be vigilant about frequent hand washing and ensure commonly touched surfaces (doorknobs, counters, tables, seating areas, keyboards, telephones and point of service terminals) are cleaned after each client visit.
* We are asking our staff to wear face mask during our office hours.
* We are asking our clients not attend at their veterinary practice in-person if:
• They have recently returned from travel outside Canada.
• They are feeling ill, exhibiting respiratory illness signs.
• They have been in contact with an individual that has tested positive for COVID-19
* We are instructing our staff who feel ill to stay home and consult their local Public Health Agency and follow COVID-19 testing protocol.
* We are closely following Public Health Agency guidelines and communicating that to our staff and will implement any direction we receive from Public Health Officials without hesitation.

Yummy Dog treat for Halloween

Healthy pumpkin balls
This snack is not only delicious but is also filled with fiber, vitamin A, beta-carotene, potassium, and iron.
Ingredients
• 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
• 4 tbsp molasses
• 4 tbsp water
• 2 tbsp vegetable oil
• 2 cups whole wheat flour
• ¼ tsp baking soda
• ¼ tsp baking powder
• 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Mix pumpkin, molasses, vegetable oil, and water together in a bowl
3. Add the whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder and cinnamon to the mixture and stir until dough softens
4. Scoop out small spoonfuls of dough and roll into balls on your hands (wet hands work best)
5. Set the balls onto a lightly greased cookie sheet and flatten with a fork
6. Bake approximately 25 minutes until dough is hardened

We are excited to welcome Dr. Daya Emmanuel to the Rutherford Veterinary Clinic family. Dr. Naguib recognized Dr. Emmanuel’s extensive knowledge and experience in veterinary medicine, exceptional animal care, and customer service. His empathy and compassion advocated affirmation that he would provide and help our clients with the utmost care for their pets needs. Dr.Emmanuel graduated from Madras Veterinary College in India in 2002. He then completed a Master of Science Degree at the University of Alberta in 2007. Dr. Emmanuel moved to Grande Prairie in 2012 where he practiced for 6 years before joining our team at Rutherford Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Emmanuel enjoys performing many surgeries more specifically orthopaedic surgery. He personally adopted a Golden Retriever from the SPCA named Joey.
Dr. Emmanuel is looking forward to meeting and helping your furry family member!

These custom made cards from Dahmer’s family and Zephyr’s family really touched our hearts 💕. Dr. Naguib is so happy that Dahmer’s 🐶🐶knee surgery was a great success and now he is pain free and playful 💕💕💕 and that Zephyr 🐱🐱is now back to normal and doing great . XOXO

With the current warm weather we wanted to pass along a reminder for pet owners and bystanders on the dangers of pets trapped in hot cars. Even with windows cracked, the temperature inside your vehicle can increase within minutes.
