In the Philippines, there are many beliefs about how mothers can have a healthy pregnancy such as avoiding wearing nail polish, wrapping any items around their necks, and cutting their hair. They do also believe that consuming twin fruits will increase their chance of having twins.
Giving Birth 👶
Some individuals believe that they can naturally induce birth by drinking coconut water. It is also believed that the mother can put squash leaves on her abdomen and hold onto solid items to make the baby’s delivery more seamless.
The Placenta 👶
It is a well-known custom to bury the placenta after delivery. It is intended to denote the end of the mother's physical suffering from labor.
Postpartum Care 🤗
The new mother is given time to recover, and in the meanwhile, her family frequently takes care of her and helps with everyday tasks.
Breastfeeding 🍼
Colostrum, which will be produced during the first lactation of the new mother, is not thought to be beneficial for the infant. Until the mother produces her regular milk, family members will give the baby an alternative formula. Some people in the Philippines also choose not to breastfeed when they are exhausted or feeling down. This is due to their desire to prevent their children from experiencing similar emotions.
The Baptism ⛪
Like in many other nations, religious families have the option of baptizing their children. The baby's sobbing during this process actually signals a prosperous future. More intense sobbing portends much better fortune for the infant.

After two UBC researchers discovered significant rates of iron deficiency in a recent study, it may be necessary for pregnant women to take more supplemental iron than what the current Health Canada recommendations suggest. 🤰
In spite of taking daily prenatal vitamins that included 100% of the daily iron guideline for pregnancy, the research examined the prevalence of iron insufficiency among 60 pregnant women in Metro Vancouver and discovered that over 80% of them were likely iron deficient in late pregnancy. 💡
In order to consume the recommended daily dietary requirement of 27 mg of iron, Health Canada currently advises women to take a supplement containing an additional 16–20 mg of iron. The majority of prenatal vitamins provide an additional iron content of 24-27 mg. 💡

The Birth Ribbon (Fiocco Nascita) 🎀
Birth ribbons are an elegant way to publicly announce the baby’s arrival to neighbours and friends. The infant’s family places a large ribbon on either their door or gate, ensuring it’s visible. Blue ribbons are used for boys, and pink ribbons are used for girls.
The Birth Kit (Corredino Nascita) 👶🏻
The kit, organized by either the baby’s grandmother or great-grandmother, consists of beautiful handmade pieces for the baby, such as blankets, hats, shoes, and bibs.
The Baptism ⛪
The baby’s baptism can be an extravagant event for Italians. In some cases, the event is even larger than a wedding. It generally takes place at a Roman Catholic church, and it can range from an intimate event to a large celebration.
No Baby Shower ❌
Unlike Canadians, the Italians don’t actually hold baby showers. They don’t believe in giving gifts to the baby before they’re born as it indicates bad luck. Instead, the little one is showered with gifts immediately after their birth.

The future health of young children is linked to pregnancy during natural disasters, according to new American research, and experts say Canadians should pay attention. ⚠️
There are numerous risks in Canada that affect people on a daily basis. Home fires, floods, wildfires, and power outages are just a few of them.
Here are some tips for expecting women on how to get ready for catastrophes or calamities 📝
✔️ First trimester
Review your emergency plan and consider any adjustments you might want to make in light of your pregnancy. Reach out to your healthcare provider about what would happen if you needed to evacuate and how you would continue receiving care. Update the supplies in your emergency bag to include calming goods if you tend to become queasy as well as vitamins or supplements that your doctor has prescribed.
✔️ Second trimester
Review your emergency plan to see if anything has to be updated in light of restrictions on physical activity. Update your emergency kit with items that you need such as extra clothing, pillows and emergency food supply.
✔️ Third trimester
Another review of your emergency plan, make sure you have a list of nearby medical institutions that you can visit if you need to be evacuated. Make a backup birth plan part of your emergency plan. Consider including your hospital bag in your emergency kit if you are approaching your due date. Include some postpartum clothing in your emergency supply kit. Remember to add some baby supplies as well, such as diapers, wipes, formula (if you use it), and clothing.
