MY FIRST REIKI TREATMENT by Lisa Iris
Not knowing what to expect, my first surprise was the amazing warmth from Terri's hands. This immediately confirmed her ability and the validity of Reiki. The caring contact I received was welcome and soothing, like healing warmth on an ache or injury.
Clients speak of memories and vivid impressions during treatment, and my experience was no different. My sense of self touched down in Egypt, convincing me that energy healing played a large part in ancient medicine. (I later read about "Sekhem", a revived Egyptian healing art pre-dating, but similar, to Reiki.) A childhood memory also surfaced, about being perplexed by stone or wooden Egyptian headrests. In an instant I recognized these headrests facilitated the alignment of the neck and spine, as Terri worked on that area.
I climbed down off the Reiki table, and my surroundings revealed themselves to be so much better than I remembered. This was more than a change in mood; it was as if a grey film had been removed from my eyes. Everything was exactly the same, yet heightened, as if seen at a different frequency. I was overwhelmed by a sense of freedom and protection. I felt very grateful to Terri, who assisted me over a threshold to a place where I felt completely safe.
That evening, I looked up a depiction of the pharaoh Akhenaten, who introduced monotheism as "Aten", symbolized by a solar disk. This carved relief depicts the Sun - the source of light and life- beaming down on Akhenaten as he cradles his new born child. This, and other works of Egyptian art, depicts the furthest-reaching expression of Source Energy, and its spiritual agency, as human hands.
