Alex Fraser a local young referee in our community. He did a fantastic job reffing our home games this past weekend. We need to continue and build a good mentorship program for all these young refs. Coaches need to be positive with these young men and patient. What I really liked from this past weekend, Alex had support from some older more experience referees, needs to continue. I just really wanted to recognize this young man and his hard work he is putting in.

We are excited to get our weekly Top Shelf Skates starting up this week. We have 3 ice times available - Tuesdays @ 6:45am, Thursdays @ 6:45am and Thursdays @ 8:15pm - all at Mac Island Mini Ice (see dates below). NOTE: Thursdays at 8:15 pm is ONLY for 2014, 2013, 2012,... and older TRAVEL TEAM PLAY...

We had another fantastic week with the Oil Barons and Top Shelf crew — filled with on-ice development, off-ice shooting & skills, hockey yoga, mental skills sessions, games, and plenty of fun. The kids worked hard, learned a lot, and brought so much energy every single day 👏

We were so happy to offer a free camp to 20 children of teachers last week. Our teachers give so much to our kids every single day and this was our small way of saying thank you and showing our support. Also a HUGE thank you to all the players, parents, coaches, and Barons who made this week such a success.

📢 Registration is now open for our October 20–23 Camp, and this will most likely be our final week as our Tuesday/Thursday morning skates kick off as well.

This 4-day camp keeps players active and engaged with a mix of on-ice development, off-ice shooting & skills with the Barons, mental skills sessions, hockey yoga, and plenty of games and activities to keep them moving all day.

🕗 Camp Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
📍 Locations: Frank Lacroix Arena & Top Shelf Facility
💰 Cost: $379 + GST ($397.95 total) — prorated refunds if the camp shortens

There will only be two groups of 20 athletes, and spots are limited.

Day 1 of camp is officially in the books, and what a way to kick things off! 🏒 The energy was high from the very first skate, with athletes giving it their all on the ice and then carrying that momentum through the rest of the day.

From skills sessions to shooting work, ball hockey, and team activities, the groups set the tone for a fun and productive week ahead. The highlight off the ice? The start of The Frozen Cup—our camp-wide street hockey tournament 🏆. Teams came out strong, and the competition is already heating up!

The Top Shelf team and Oil Barons players brought great energy, and it was awesome to see everyone settling in so quickly. Day 2 is already well underway, and we can’t wait to keep the momentum going for the rest of the week. 🙌
