This new Indigenous Support group for Indigenous caregivers will be facilitated by our very own Lori Gauthier. She hopes to see some familiar faces there.

Indigenous Disability Awareness Month may be over, but we are here to support you throughout the year! On Sunday, January 18, 2026, we are starting a new peer-led online Family Hangout for Indigenous caregivers in BC.

We welcome you here to connect and share with other Indigenous caregivers in a culturally safe and respectful space. We acknowledge and celebrate different perspectives around disability, while recognizing the unique barriers that Indigenous families with disabilities face in a colonial society.

This group is for any Indigenous caregiver (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) who cares for a loved one with any disability, with or without a diagnosis, regardless of their age or gender, calling in from anywhere in BC.

Remember: It takes a village to raise a child. Maybe you’ll find part of your village here.

This Family Hangout will meet the third Sunday of each month, 6:00-7:30pm. Our first session starts on Sunday, Jan 18. Come join us from anywhere in BC!

🔔 Update: Did you receive a lower Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) payment than expected? Payments to correct miscalculations of the working income exemption start in December!

Earlier this year, Service Canada discovered some people’s monthly CDB payments were miscalculated because the working income exemption may not have been applied. 🔍

🗓️ If your CDB payment was affected by this miscalculation, Service Canada has confirmed that these payments will be corrected starting in December.

✍️ If you are affected, your December payment should include:
✅ Your Corrected Monthly Amount: The accurate benefit amount you will receive moving forward.
✅ Backdated Funds: A lump sum covering all the money you were owed from previous months.

✍️ You do not need to apply for this correction. You are likely included if:
📩 You received an initial letter about the error in August.
📩 You received a second letter confirming your new amount.

If you are unsure if this applies to you or if you have questions about your upcoming December payment, please contact Service Canada directly. ☎️

Has your child or youth with complex learning needs been denied equal opportunities at school, child care, or out-of-school care?

Use the National Exclusion Tracker to report this experience. You can fill out a report each time your child or youth experiences exclusion—anywhere in Canada.

You and your child/youth get to define what the exclusion was. Here are some examples of what it could look like:

⚠️ Being placed on a gradual entry plan (not applied class-wide)
⚠️ Being asked to stay home/Getting sent home
⚠️ Experiencing shortened school days
⚠️ Being left out of field trips, classroom activities, or extracurricular programs
⚠️ Being denied access to child care or out-of-school care
⚠️ Not learning alongside peers
⚠️ Seclusion or restraint
⚠️ Having essential health, safety, or personal care needs go unmet

Use the Exclusion Tracker to share your child or youth’s story.
