My mom loved berry-picking, specifically blueberries and partridgeberries (aka lingonberries). There’s a whole freezer full of them! I’ve been having them with yogurt and walnuts for breakfast and do notice an increase in energy (no afternoon slumps).
They’re really good for you, it turns out. Check it out (from Google):
“Vaccinium vitis-idaea, commonly known as lingonberry or cowberry, offers several potential health benefits due to its rich content of antioxidants and other bioactive compounds. These include potential anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antidiabetic effects, as well as benefits for urinary tract health and brain function.
Specific Health Benefits:
Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Properties:
Lingonberries are packed with polyphenols, including flavonoids and anthocyanins, which act as antioxidants, helping to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals and reducing inflammation.
Urinary Tract Health:
Lingonberries, like cranberries, may help prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) by inhibiting the adhesion of bacteria to the urinary tract walls.
Cardiovascular Health:
Studies suggest that lingonberries may help improve blood sugar levels, reduce visceral fat gain, and lower levels of pro-inflammatory molecules, potentially reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Brain Health:
Lingonberries have been associated with potential neuroprotective effects, possibly helping to prevent or mitigate age-related cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disorders.
Other Potential Benefits:
Lingonberries may also have antidiabetic effects, antiviral properties, and potential benefits for gut health.
Traditional Medicinal Uses:
Historically, lingonberry leaves and berries have been used to treat various ailments, including diarrhea, sore throats, coughs, and colds.
The leaves have been used as antiseptics and diuretics.”
