If “wear-and-tear” automatically meant pain…
your WRINKLES would be absolutely losing their minds right now. 😂

But they’re not.
Because “things changing” ≠ “things hurting.”

And yet…people (including therapists) still talk about joints like…
“Well, it’s probably arthritis…you know…bones are grinding… it’s degenerative…good luck.” 🙃

Nah.

Here’s the messy truth…
pain is not a tissue receipt.
Pain is your nervous system doing math with like 47 variables like-
sleep, stress, threat, inflammation, fear, past injury, movement habits, workload, “oh no what if I tear something,” etc.

So yeah -your tissues can be imperfect and you can be fine.
And your tissues can look “normal” and you can be wrecked.
Because the signal and the volume k**b are not the same thing.

That’s why shouldn’t just chase “damage.”
You should chase what’s loud today.
Find the hotspots. Hit them with precision, check what changes. Repeat.

Because results > stories.

And if anyone tells you “it’s just wear-and-tear”…tell them your forehead disagrees. 😅

Conditioned Pain Modulation (CPM)...the nervous system’s “shut up” button for pain. 😄

CPM is the nervous system's built-in feature where one strong, safe input can make pain turn down.

In a nutshell...
“Pain can block pain.”

When the brain registers a signal that’s intense but not dangerous, it can flip on descending control systems and basically say -“Alright, everyone chill. We’re not dying.”…and the pain volume drops.

Here’s the kicker though...
In chronic pain, that “pain-dampening” system often gets lazy or offline -so everything feels louder, faster, and more protective than it should.

That’s why in clinic you’ll sometimes see-

✅ the same movement hurts less immediately

✅ ROM jumps

✅ strength feels more available

✅ the body stops guarding like it’s bracing for impact

Not magic. Not tissue “healing” in 10 seconds.
Just the nervous system changing its mind.

Now consider even if this does not hold...you have opened a window of movement opportunity for your patient that can now create more safety messages to the nervous system and further open more opportunities.
