Kids in the Woods Summer Camp is now open to the wider community!

This is a fully outdoor, morning-only camp (9:00–12:00), led by experienced pediatric OTs, with small groups and lots of individual support. It’s designed for kids who do best with a calmer pace, supportive adults, and time outside to move, play, and connect.

Details and registration are available at the link in my bio.

Kids in the Woods Summer Camp is a fully outdoor, morning-only camp (9:00–12:00) designed for kids who do best with smaller groups, supportive adults, and space to move, play, and connect.

We’re OT-led, with small groups and lots of individual support, with a huge emphasis on fun, inclusion, and real-life growth that happens naturally through shared experiences.

This camp is especially great for kids who don’t always thrive in typical camp environments, and who benefit from a calmer pace, clear rhythms, and time outside.

Because this is an Occupational Therapy–led camp, families may be able to 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗢𝗔𝗣 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 and/or 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 that include OT coverage. Camp that's covered by insurance? Yes, please!

Camps run the last two weeks of summer:
Week #1 - August 24-29
Week #2 - August 31 - Sept 4

Registration dates
• Jan 31 – current & returning Kids in the Woods families
• Feb 2 – open to the wider community

We focus on creating a fun, inclusive camp environment where kids are supported in the moment as they move, play, and connect.

This camp is especially great for kids who don’t always thrive in typical camp settings, and who do best with supportive adults, clear rhythms, and plenty of time outside.

Registration dates
• Jan 31 – current & returning Kids in the Woods families

It’s happening this week! Come join me to take a deeper dive into Understanding ADHD

This workshop is a great fit for caregivers (and educators!) who want to better understand their children with ADHD so that you can show up in a way that’s aligned both with what your child needs and with your values, too!

As a busy parent to ND kids myself, I know that scripts and super specific strategies aren’t usually what’s helpful in the moments we need them most. Instead, this workshop will break down what’s happening from a brain and nervous system perspective so that you can understand what’s actually behind those challenging behaviours that show up.

Maybe these sound familiar: Picking fights with siblings? Constant movement? Explosive emotions? Unable to follow even familiar routines? Yep, those are exactly the kinds of things you will better understand after our time together.

The workshop is virtual, so if you can’t attend live you can catch the replay at a time that works for you!

I’d love to see you there!

You might be wondering if Kids in the Woods is right for your child!

These groups are designed for kids who want connection, but experience social situations in different ways. Some jump right in. Others hang back, observe, and need time and support to engage. Many benefit from gentle guidance around flexibility, impulse control, and navigating peer dynamics.

Learning happens through movement, play, shared experiences, and supportive relationships.

Parents often tell us they’re looking for spaces where their child can belong authentically, without having to hold themselves together or try to fit into a box that doesn’t quite work for them. That’s exactly what we’ve created at Kids in the Woods!

While our sessions happen outdoors, this is much more than just outdoor play. Kids are supported by skilled Occupational Therapists who intentionally guide social learning in real moments, helping children build confidence and connection in ways that feel respectful, supportive, and true to who they are.

Our winter session starts soon, and we only have a few spaces left!

Details are at the link in my bio. And if you have questions, feel free to send me a message.

Kids in the Woods is where we bring Occupational Therapy into the wild to support kids in building social skills and confidence, while staying true to exactly who they are.

These groups are a beautiful fit for kids who are curious, thoughtful, and full of potential!

Some kids move quickly and feel deeply. Others move more slowly, watch carefully, and need time and support to join in. Many want connection, but find group dynamics tricky to navigate.

Kids in the Woods supports all of these kids through movement, play, shared experiences, and gentle guidance in real moments.

Being out in nature creates a regulating and engaging space where kids can practice perspective taking, flexible thinking, collaboration, and leadership, with skilled support right in the moments that matter.

Our winter session begins the week of January 12!

We currently have limited spaces remaining:
• Tuesday morning (JK - Grade 2): 1 space
• Tuesday afternoon (Grades 4 - 6): full
• Thursday afternoon (Grades 1 - 4): 2 spaces

You can learn more or book a free meet and greet at the link in my bio. I’m always happy to chat if you’re wondering whether this might be a good fit - please feel free to send me a DM!

You know your child is *amazing*!

You see their curiosity, creativity, energy, and deeply caring heart. And sometimes their impulsivity, intensity, or tendency to be all-in when it comes to social situations.

They might jump in quickly, struggle to read the room, or have a hard time slowing their body and brain enough to stay connected with peers.

At Kids in the Woods, we see these kids clearly. We don't try to quiet them or smooth them out.

We support them in learning how to be with others. Noticing their energy. Practicing flexibility. Repairing after missteps. Finding ways to connect that feel good and authentic!

Nature gives us the 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 environment for this work. It allows movement, space, creativity, and regulation. All the things many kids need in order to thrive socially.

Our winter session begins the week of January 12, and a few spaces remain. We would love for your child to join us!

One of the more baffling behaviours that can happen when your child has ADHD is this seemingly wild phenomenon where they are both capable of such incredible and complex things, and at the same time can't manage to get dressed in the morning independently.

Here's the thing? This actually makes sense. If we look at it through a neurobiological lens - what's happening in their brains and bodies during each of these activities - we can understand it in a different way. This also means that we can show up and support them in a different way when this reality gets in the way of the things they want or need to do.

This is the kind of information and frame shifts that we're so big on here at SROT! If you want to learn more about ADHD from this ND affirming lens - we've got a ton of free resources in our blogs and the 'freebies' section of our website designed specifically to support you!

Something we hear often from parents is: Why can't my kid pay attention to (insert thing we want them to focus on!), but they have no problem paying attention to (insert thing that they're interested in). It can be so confusing - the name ADHD implies that there's a deficit of attention - so why in the world can they focus so well on the things they choose?

This post dives into the 'why' behind this behaviour - which, when we consider it through a neurobiological lens, actually makes perfect sense!

Looking for more evidence-informed and ND affirming ways to understand your child? Join us for our upcoming workshop Understanding ADHD: A Parent's Intro workshop. Learn more and register at the link in bio!
