We had a great time at the University of Guelph Child Studies Career Fair 🎓
It was wonderful meeting so many students exploring careers supporting children and youth.
Interestingly, many of our conversations began with a simple question:
“What is Applied Behaviour Analysis?” 💬
Many students who hope to work with children and youth had never heard of ABA or the role of a Behaviour Analyst. We spent much of the evening sharing what the field is, how behaviour analysis can support meaningful skill development, and how it can be used in compassionate, collaborative, and neuroaffirming ways.
It was really exciting to see a few students walk away inspired to learn more about the field and consider it as part of their future ✨
We also heard a question we have encountered at times throughout our work in this field:
“Is ABA harmful?”
These conversations matter. Like many fields, behaviour analysis continues to evolve. Our work today is informed by neurodivergent voices, lived experience, and an ongoing commitment to dignity, autonomy, and meaningful support.
Because of this, we’ll be sharing a series of posts over the next little while about neuroaffirming ABA - what it means, how it looks in practice, and how behaviour analysis can support individuals and families in respectful and meaningful ways.
Stay tuned. We’re looking forward to continuing the conversation 💛
