Introducing a new service we are offering: Children's Counselling

This counselling meets children where they are, through play, creativity, and connection. Children often don’t yet have the words to explain big feelings or challenging experiences. Play-based counselling provides a natural, developmentally appropriate way for children to express themselves, build emotional skills, and grow confidence.

Reach out to learn more or to book your child for counselling.

Sharing for IWK/Dalhousie University:

We are clinicians and researchers in the fields of dentistry and mental health. We are conducting a research project investigating the relationship of mental and dental health.

Currently, there is little information about this association. We are exploring how mental health and oral health affect each other, and whether children with or without mental health challenges show differences in primary tooth mineralization. This is a research project, which will let us know how to better help parents deal with their children’s dental and mental health.

You are eligible to participate in this study if your child is:

· aged 5-17 years old, and

· has a fallen-out or extracted (removed) baby tooth that you want to donate.

Participation

Parents will be asked to donate fallen-out or removed primary teeth of their children as well as filling out a checklist. This is a multi-site study, and we hope to recruit at least 400 participants from each group of children, including those without any mental health conditions as well as those with mental or neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g., ASD, ADHD, anxiety).

We anticipate that answering to the questions of checklist will take about 20-25 minutes.

If you decide to participate in this study, we will give you a gift card upon completion of your participation (i.e., both checklist and delivery of the tooth).

If you choose to participate in this study or have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the research team at via email at JoinPed@dal.ca

🧱 LEGO® Therapy Winter Groups – Coming January! 🧱

Thrive Therapy is excited to be offering LEGO® Therapy groups this winter! We’re currently looking for children and families who may be interested in registering for this small-group program. Children will be placed in similar age groups, with group sizes of 3–4 participants.

✨ What is LEGO® Therapy?
LEGO® Therapy is an evidence-based approach that uses collaborative LEGO® building to support social skills, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. During each session, children work together in small groups to complete shared LEGO® projects, with each child taking on a specific role. This fun, structured environment helps build social connections in a natural and motivating way.

📅 Group Details:
• Dates: Tentative weekday evenings (day TBD) for 6 weeks, starting in January
• Time: 4:30–5:30 pm
• Location: Thrive Therapy – Halifax Clinic (Bayers Road)
• Session Length: 50 minutes
• Cost: $390 for 6 weeks ($65 per session)

📩 If you’re interested in having your child participate or would like more information, we’d love to hear from you!
