Thrive Therapy offers Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Counselling to children, youth, adults, and seniors across Nova Scotia.

Our mission is to support and empower our clients to achieve their goals, using an individualized and client-centred approach. We offer services at our 2 clinic locations within the Halifax Regional Municipality, as well as in the community, in our client’s homes, workplaces, and within school-based settings.

🧱 LEGO® Therapy Winter Groups – Coming January! 🧱

Thrive Therapy is excited to be offering LEGO® Therapy groups this winter! We’re currently looking for children and families who may be interested in registering for this small-group program. Children will be placed in similar age groups, with group sizes of 3–4 participants.

✨ What is LEGO® Therapy? LEGO® Therapy is an evidence-based approach that uses collaborative LEGO® building to support social skills, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. During each session, children work together in small groups to complete shared LEGO® projects, with each child taking on a specific role. This fun, structured environment helps build social connections in a natural and motivating way.

📅 Group Details: • Dates: Tentative weekday evenings (day TBD) for 6 weeks, starting in January • Time: 4:30–5:30 pm • Location: Thrive Therapy – Halifax Clinic (Bayers Road) • Session Length: 50 minutes • Cost: $390 for 6 weeks ($65 per session)

York University’s research team is conducting a study about the positive experiences (flourishing) of visible minority families of autistic youth and young adults (aged 10–30) living in Canada.

Caregivers will be invited to complete an online survey (30–45 minutes) about their child, family flourishing, and their experience living in Canada. To thank them for their time, caregivers will be eligible to win one of ten $100 e-gift certificates.

✨ Tips for Supporting Clothing Sensitivities ✨

Clothing sensitivities can make getting dressed stressful, but small adjustments can make a big difference in comfort and confidence. 💜💚

✔️ Use fragrance-free, dye-free detergents and soaps ✔️ Warm clothes in the dryer before wearing ✔️ Wash clothing multiple times to soften textures ✔️ Remove tags and try deep pressure massage before dressing

Creating a sensory-friendly wardrobe can help children (and adults!) feel more at ease throughout the day.

Play is a vital part of a child’s development, offering far more than just fun. Through play, children explore their creativity and imagination, learn to communicate and express themselves, and build trusting relationships with others. It supports social and emotional growth by helping them understand feelings and practice empathy, while also encouraging problem-solving and critical thinking. Additionally, play helps children develop self-regulation skills and strengthens both fine and gross motor abilities, laying the foundation for lifelong learning and well-being.

Summertime is a great opportunity to engage your child in fun activities that also promote fine motor development.

Fine motor skills refer to the ability to control the small muscles and movements in the hands, fingers, and wrists. Working on these skills helps with tasks such as handwriting, drawing, using utensils, trying shoes, etc. Fine motor skills are vital for independence in a child’s daily life.
