One of Lotus Counselling's values is in supporting the next generation of psychotherapist into their clinical practice. We are extremely proud to work with McMaster University's Masters of Psychotherapy program and to be able to offer clinical placements. We wouldn't be able to do this without the kindness and willingness of our clients to allow our students to observe and learn through joining into sessions. We are very proud of our students and very grateful to our clients for helping us in this venture. One of the many perks of doing your clinical placement at Lotus is that your supervisions with Elisha will also feature our wonderful therapy dogs Jarvis and Marvel - available for both emotional support and a dash of humour (but good luck trying to take notes) !!

👋 Ever felt the pull of impulse buying? That rush of excitement, followed by the sinking feeling of buyer’s remorse?

You’re not alone! Impulse control can be a challenge, especially in today’s fast-paced, consumer-driven world. 🛍️💸
But there’s a way to break free from the cycle and make more mindful choices. Introducing the S.H.O.P. method:

S - See: Notice what catches your eye and acknowledge the desire.

H - Halt: Pause before reaching for your wallet. Take a deep breath and step back.

O - Observe: Observe your thoughts and feelings. Why do you want this item? Is it a genuine need, or are other emotions (stress, boredom, FOMO) driving the urge?

P - Postpone: Delay the decision. If it’s a need, consider if there are alternative, more budget-friendly options. If it’s a want, give it some time. Come back later (a day, a week) and see if you still feel the same way.

This simple technique helps you:

🛍️Gain control over impulsive urges: You create space between the desire and the action, allowing for more thoughtful decision-making.

💪Strengthen your self-control muscle: Each time you postpone a purchase, you’re building your willpower and resilience.

💳Save money & reduce clutter: By avoiding impulse buys, you’ll keep your finances and living space healthier.

😁Cultivate mindfulness: The S.H.O.P. method encourages you to tune into your emotions and motivations, fostering self-awareness.

Remember, change takes time and practice. Be kind to yourself, and celebrate every small victory! 🌱

This is the 3rd annual Flora’s Walk for Perinatal Mental Health by This year, 75% of the money we raise will go towards supporting perinatal mental health programming . The remaining 25% will go towards supporting CPMHC’s advocacy efforts across Canada.
