General information

WHAT WE DO The core of the CWC's program philosophy is to empower survivors into sharing, observing and expressing their desires for a better life. PROGRAMS -COUNSELLING Afrocentric psychology encourages group therapy as well as one on one. The Center therefore encompasses both equally. Psycho social Agents are specifically matched to clients according to their experiences. To encourage bonding between the psycho social agent and her clients, there are several activities the psycho social agent might enjoy with her clients, for example, time spent exercising at a local gym, shopping and lunch at the mall or cooking at the organization's kitchens. Touring, movie dates and play dates with the children may also be a part of therapy. Our work just doesn't end at the door. FINANCIAL LITERACY The Center for Women of Colour believes in building a brand new woman who will be able to embrace her new country Canada with confidence and helping her understand how her money works for her is essential. Financial classes are available to clients and non clients of the Center for Women of Colour. These classes begin at basic finances such as budgeting and maintaining a good credit record to saving for a mortgage. ADVOCACY The Center for Women of Colour will advocate for equal treatment of women of colour in Canada when it comes to jobs and government social services. TRAINING OF PSYCHO SOCIAL AGENTS The Center for Women of Colour trains and recruits its own psycho social agents.
